@mikehebditch:disqus You cannot use the Quantum shielding stratagem against attacks that do 1 damage. Here’s why:
1. It modifies your roll
2. You have to roll less than the damage
3. You cannot modify a dice roll to less than 1 (it’s in designers comments).

That always fights first thing may not actually be always fight first. The wording of those rules have thus far been fairly consistent (between Slaanesh and others at least), but basically the person whos turn it is gets to activate a unit first, and then ‘always fights first’ does. They only fight ‘first’ in the sense that if there are no charging units then it gets to go at that point.

during the army preview, am I the only one that lost the malanthrope and just thought that it was a custom cthulhu tyrant?

I thought the reason why they didn’t do the FnP thing to Necron’s is because Reanimation doesn’t work like FnP. You’re always getting a 33%+ chance of getting a guy to come back (as long as it doesn’t run away?) whereas if a guy with FnP dies he’s dead, and doesn’t come back short of CP usage (Grandfather one if memory serves, and it can’t be used to bring a dead character back to life either). They can’t afford to make a rule like that a mathematical certainty, because otherwise Necron’s would be OP imo, unless they further tweaked it… Read more »

@mikehebditch:disqus I’ve been looking for models to use for C’Tan myself. I think the Morghast Archai are great models, but I’m just not certain whether they fit the mould for C’Tan. Have you considered using Sauron the Necromancer? My concern is that I’m not sure how tall he is…he might need a big rock to stand on or something…. https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Sauron-the-Necromancer

This, for me, was the best output you guys have done (excluding the constant joy of Cast Of Players) since the narrative report. We’ve been long overdue a good ol’ Chef rant!

Only thing I need to Know is, how does the Chef feel about White Scars in the transition from 7th edition to 8th edition rules?

Great to see Chef back and playing my favorites! Reports with the chef have three guarantees, 1) it’ll have a long but still somehow interesting rant 2) the game will be more tactical than a Tactica report and 3) the amount of Justin Bieber hairwaiving will be over 9000. I love my crons but boy, do they need something to change in the game to make them work. I recently went to Heat 2, had a blast (man/god of every game was the Deceiver though!) but against some armies I just didn’t have any play. Sure DDA’s and destroyers do… Read more »

I wonder how the rest of the TT Team would feel about a permanent -1 to the Spider’s rolls? 🙂 Good game, though. 2 Awesome looking armies.

At 1:11:40 Lawtence you consiladted into Chefs Wraiths but they didn’t pile in and attack back, is that due to the way tyranids strategem works at the end of the fight phase tather then the normal order?

It was great to see CHEF back on the Channel, that wealth of knowledge adds so much to TTT.

Would the Necron warriors do better if they were screened from the Genestealers attacks ?

Tyranids with shooting and magic are scary !!

Great to see the chef back, love his rants. He should do a pod cast called “Hells Bakery”, get a guest in each week to focus on some wrong. I would like to ask this (I have ask alot of people this), if you were doing the next big FAQ what would be your priority number 1? I would like everyone opinions it it

Always love Chef’s appearances, especially with the necrons. I could listen to his rants for hours, always get more insight into the rules. The list run downs with Chef could be made into their own little tactica videos xD . You can tell when he has gripes with rules its because he wants the game to be balanced and fun not that he simply wants his armies to be more powerful. Hope to see more Chef soon.

Yeay! Chef’s back! Damn it’s nice to see him again. Just got to love the rant (nice editing by Bone at the start btw, made me laugh). Fun battle and gratz to Lawrence for bringing it home ^_^

More Chef please. The pregame discussion made this my favorite battle report ever. (Granted, I’ve only been watching for about 5 months.)

Good game chaps. I’ve got ask, at one point do you think that the minority start dictating 40K to the majority? I remember when the idea of having more then one Hive Tyrant was silly, I mean he’s your general (or used to be) and he costs so many points. Plus he’s was so killy it would unbalanced the game to have more then one on the board! Somewhere down the line (6th Edition maybe?) the game changed and internet lists started to change the “meta”. Now the relatively few people who go to to GT’s seem to set the… Read more »

Great game guys, love seeing the chef back!
Tough one chef
A question for Lawrence, can you achieve supremacy with priority orders received?
It says in priority orders that it can only be your warlord to control an objective or to kill the last model in a unit etc, but to achieve supremacy you need to control 3 objectives and only have one warlord
I always played it as unachievable if I drew supremacy with priority orders but maybe I’m interpreting it wrong

Crazy idea, but what if they changed it so that reanimation protocol always happens on a 3 up but models can only get back up once. And put in a stratagem for 3 cp that allows you to roll for reanimation on a unit that is fully destroyed. Regardless of buffs stratagems or any other consideration models can only get back up once. And then give moderate points drops army wide for anything with infantry keyword

I do love seeing Chef in bat reps! It’s been far too long!! Not only are the rants a highlight, but they are thought out and right! Looking forward to hopefully seeing the pair of you going back to the codex review series soon! And maybe after that, a once a month?, series in regards to the “state of the game” discussion hosted by you two where rants and suggestions could be made and discussed? The only thing i would have changed for the Chef, is when he was down to 4 CP was to let the C’Tan die without… Read more »

Wow! listening to chef is always soooo interesting… Extra rante why oh why do Necrons have to take moral test, that makes no sence to me. The necron paint scheme is really nice. Good game… Looking forward to the next one 🙂

IMHO, the biggest issue with CP farming (from a balance perspective) is that it is a multiplier. The net gain from these traits and relics increases the more CP you start with, and at around 12-15 CP it effectively goes infinite. This is inverse balance: the armies that are the most in need of a few extra CP get few or none from farming. The ones that already have too many CP get even more. If they were to change all CP farming traits and relics to a flat CP gain, so Kurov’s Aquila grants +1 CP (full stop), you… Read more »

Lawrence says he eats Spartan-like… I will pay to see him eat some melos zomos in the intro of the next BatRep video!

A black broth of pigs blood and some salt and such – what the Spartans actually eat. I think it’ll pair well with his vampire accent when he plays Drukhari.

Regarding having a Kraken Tyrannofex with Acid Spray is not a bad idea if you are casting Onslaught on him after advancing, this would indeed allow him to still fire his heavy weapon even if he advanced. See below for actual wording to the power in relation to heavy weapon, and in the brackets it includes if you advance. Furthermore, they can even charge and with 4Att S7 2D, they aren’t too bad in combat if you really need to pick off an enemy. “That unit can shoot this turn (even if it Advanced) without suffering any penalties to its… Read more »

Great BR as ever guys, love to see both the nids,Chef and a Chef rant on the channel! Really interesting to see the acid spray fexes as I’ve been toying with the idea of them for sometime. It is a shame that you really only see a small proportion of each armies models. In my local gaming group we are doing a fluffy challenge atm, in which we all picked a lesser seen subfaction for each of our armies and then created lists with units that not only benefited from the subfaction trait but also were in keeping with the… Read more »

Agree totally on the CP farm. Funnily enough Nids actually have one similar to what you guys stated where you spend a CP to get D3 CP back when genestealers or a lictor kills a character 😀

Chef please play some doomsday arks. They are the best units for necrons at the moment. Also recomending destroyers and tesseract vault. The necron lists that did the best at GT contained at least one fo these units.

I agree with one thing in the rant: “Reanimation will make your opponent have a bad time”. Destroyers are expensive, but unless you kill the whole unit in one turn, and suddenly 4 of them stand back up at full health, yeah no they are priced correctly. Necrons also have such great synergy between their different characters and other rules, that can take the “on paper” normal unit and make it insane. I think Necrons issue isn’t that they are overcosted or that they are bad, it’s just that in the competitive meta right now the cherry picked tournament armies… Read more »

“I’m thirsty, I’ll drink some water”
Normal person: “Okay”
“I’m thirsty, I’ll drink some water”
Chef: “Yes, TECHNICALLY, the rules DO state that you CAN drink water when thirsty, and yes that’s correct water will POSSIBLY quench your thirst, BUT if you were to try and drink say bacon, or concrete, then it WOULD NOT help with the thirst………..*18 hours later*………..and that’s why the Ashen Huntsman need buffs and points drops across the board.

Good to see the crons back to back on the channel. Such a shame we are struggling on the competition scene, or at anything over very casual play. Funny i played 1750 against nids last night, scraped a win in the last turn. Personally im in the camp of minimum immortal battalion and invest in max units of destroyers, tomb blades, a couple of DDAs and a Tess Ark. Running a blend of detachments enhances things a bit too. Nihilahk DDAs perched on top of a building are not too shabby – if somewhat random.

After rant post: What would you think if a ressurection orb changed to something like this: Once per game, when a unit is killed within 6″ of a model with a ressurection orb, at the next start of your movement phase you can do a RP for that unit. With an appropiate point cost for the orb. It might be infuriating for the opponent, because normally dead = dead, but that’s kind of the point of necrons, isn’t it?

Not to mention that Night Scythe’s don’t actually TRANSPORT their cargo….the units that are being Invasion Beamed are essentially put into reserves….meaning the CP cannot be used on Turn 1 outside of your deployment zone. If you go first and rush the Night Scythe outside of your deployment zone your opponent can and should kill it with no chance for anything to come out of the invasion beam….hopefully this gets addressed in the new FAQ

The wave serpent debate is so dumb! The rule about the serpent shield is clearly written, people just deliberately misinterpret it because it’s a stronger rule when misplayed! Because Eldar really need more help winning games right!?!?
