Hey guys, Ok, so I’ve watched this video in it’s entirety and after buying my own copy of it and after giving it a read there were a few nagging questions that kept popping up in my mind. Spider, you and BBone had both agreed that you feel that Space Marine Primaris models will be the focus of Space Marine future and correct me if I’m wrong I think you came to that conclusion due to point cost drops being given to everything but regular Tac Marines. So, do you see the regular sized Tactical Marines being phased out entirely?… Read more »
Anyone know if the Vigilius rules are going to be legal for ITC?
I was really looking forward to this…..Chef pls learn to talk with, rather than at, others. Bone barely said a word and you managed to make the the same point three ways. Pls be more concise. cheers
Mr. Bone, does the change to missions mean that Breacher Teams in Devilfish’ and XV8s now will be viable choices? Honestly, I don’t understand the constant … I wanna stay polite so wont say whine …. dissatisfaction with the Grey Knights. You are rocking an insane amount of Mortal Wounds with easy-to-get-off psychic powers, which your opponent has no chance of denying it all. And the GM Nemesis DK is auto-include. He’s nigh invulnerable and soaks tons of enemy shooting. Just look at Lawrence’s track record with him. Flayed Ones. What about Flayed Ones? Nothing? At all? As of now,… Read more »
You guys mentioned that the Kytan Ravager had about a 100 point drop. Is this legit?? How many points are they now?
I’ve just treated myself for Christmas and have one on the way hehe. Well, that and an entire World Eaters army too.
P.S Your WE are damn inspiring guys. Keep their battle reports coming!
Great work as always guys! Thanks for the informed discussion!
How long, if at all, do you think we will see Chaos Primaris?
@The B Bone : Any comment regarding the new stuff on Farsight enclave?
awesome video guys!
Because I was stalwart in my use of crisis suits and missile pods despite them being controversially expensive, I literally saw a 400 point drop in my list with the CA changes!!! And I was already running a brigade!
I was surprised you guys didn’t really touch on more of the Eldar changes, I get that some people hate them, but there are a number of die hard Eldar enthusiasts that follow you guys passionately, myself included. Consider this a post for the rest of us then! – Shining Spears are still amazing having only received a net increase of 3 points. I feel Lawrence knew the truth when he opted to concede that competitive Eldar builds would have to adopt new tactics for the new missions. The truth is Shining Spears continue to be too good in that… Read more »
I was going to wait for primaris bikes for my White Scar force, but the drop in bikes and 2pt storm shield is making me look closer at veteran bikes. :O
Ynnari / soul-burst double-activation is actually pretty poor. Imagine Dark Reaper had Leman-Russ style double-activations … e.g. up to 3 (or 9?) units in your army, not just one, just for moving half, no fancy psychic test you need to pass (that can be denied), no 132 tax-hq, no giving up your craftworld traits to get it, no giving up a good warlord trait, no giving up your free relic, etc.., etc.. Or even just a 2 CP double shoot. Again, far more reliable, not losing a useful HQ, not losing your Alaitoc/Ulthwe-trait, etc… The Ynnari problem isn’t the soul… Read more »
What I personally find a little bit frustrating is that GW seems to actually get the problem but fails at delivering a solution. Going from 7th to 8th meant an increase in damage output and a decrease in survivability in general: more shots with more re-rolls on the one side, less effective armour saves and less useful cover on the other. This made the focus of the game more and more to table your opponent instead of playing the mission. Just as the guys said, it ‘s all over after turn 3 quite often, with castle style armies that are… Read more »
Null field seems a bit difficult with harlequins
Can you even take Blood Angels with the Veteran Intercessor strategem? I mean, they’re in the own dex, so I assume that it would have to be specifically spelt out that they can use the Indomitas Crusade sort of stuff. I only make mention of this because they didn’t mention whether BA’s could use it in the Warhammer Community write up.
Edit: NvM you wondered this yourself about half a second after I posted this!
Crimson Fists Intercessors, equipped with Auto Bolt Rifles, running into half range… unleashing 40 shots, then later on you charge them while you have Pedro Kantor within 6″.
We are talking 41 attacks from a unit of 10 Intercessors!
I would take the Auto Rifles mainly because you want to get these boys into combat as soon as possible.
Taking three Repulsors might be a bit excessive, so running them might be the best option. And Kantor can’t ride in a Repulsor either.
Space Marines don’t have the Space Marines keyword, they have Adeptus Astartes and
Blood Angels and Dark Angels are their
So either GW forgot their own rules again, which they do from time to time, or you can take this on any Space Marine detachment… which I would argue is any Codex that can take Primaris.
I find it interesting that the Intercessors went down in points, but the Hellblaster stayed the same. They are essentially the same soldier with a different gun.
I would have dropped the Hellblaster too, but upped their weapons by 1 point. Just to keep things that are the “same” the same.
Lawrence, did you say intercessor sergeants have more weapon choices now?!
I think everyone knew points drops wouldn’t fix some armies. And the point drops have come (or not come in some cases) and here we are disappointed!
I think Codex’s are coming.
Lord of Skulls is the same as CA17. It went up last year from 365 to 380.
I think it stayed at that ridiculous cost because it doesn’t really degrade, it just change what it’s good at.
GW: “Okay, marine players buy Primaris! Chaos Marine players: “Um… we can’t” GW: “Now Cultists are more expensive! Keep quiet or we’ll make them even more expensive!” I would LOVE it if Chose were troops choices now, because they are AMAZING! now. For 16 points you can get a cobi-bolter and a chains sword on them. That’s 3 attacks in close combat, and 4 shots at range. I am considering them for my Black Legion actually. Sad that Rhinos stayed the same cost, because I think you need to put the Chosen in Rhinos to not have them shot off… Read more »
GW needs to hire some mathamaticians or engineers or something to work out the points for things… because I feel so many of the values put on things is just arbitrary…
Also they should multiply all the points costs by 20… because how cool wouldn’t it be if 40.000 points were the standard points value for the game?
Oh my god, Dark Angels “Secret Agenda” stratagem became a viable option for the first Maelstom Mission.
Your opponent can’t deny your objectives, because he has no idea what you are trying to achieve.
Wow I’m devastated as a Dark Angels player with a pure primaris force. Why can’t I have the indomitus crusaders? The Primaris DA were in the Indomitus crusade

“Hrm, a three hour discussion video? There must be a Chef rant in there somewhere.”
My SM list now looks bonkers: Tigeruis (115), Techmarin (65), 3x Scouts (165), 2x Redemptor Dreads (318), 2x Stormtalons (348), Lev (321), Contemptor Dread (138), Gman(400), 2x scout bikers (130) 2000. barf
I really wish GW would just go to having the codecies be live free document downloads so everyone would always have the most updated rules including faq and chapter approved changes. It’s honestly silly that they haven’t. Realistically how much of their profit comes from the rules compared to selling the miniatures. They’d sell more miniatures, and it would save a lot of headache. Currently it’s like paying for a yearly patch to the game, and limits they’re patching to once a year.
So the rumour that there is no Drukhari changes at all is true? Everyone gets named character points drops including Eldrad “In every Ynnari/Craftworld list” Ulthran but they think DrazZzZzZzhar Master of Who? doesnt get a drop?
best thing to wake up to is a new tabletop tactics video.
Just FYI the blade of power can appear a bit “fascist” in nature on camera to the uninitiated.
Great review guys!! The missions sound very fun and loving the changes they’ve made with them.
Ravenwing!!! I’m jazzed and can’t wait to see what you guys cook up with the studio army. Pure Ravenwing while trying to use the Specialist Detachment is going to be tricky!
Question… you mentioned it, but will models like the Dark Shroud or the Talonmaster get points reductions because they’re in land speeders? I’m assuming that won’t apply to Sammael’s Sableclaw, but one can hope 🙂
You missed the deathwatch .. their veterans have dropped 2pts a model alongside the primaris marines no longer having to pay 1pt for their pistols so they also came down 2pts instead of the normal 1pt of other marine armies .. Corvus black star came down 15pts too but its not enough unless it gets POTMS or a strafing run
As annoyed as I am to not see space marines as a core at least get a 1 point drop, im not overly surprised. Really just gotta wait for the early codex fixes. Though I will be looking into Ravenwing in a core army, and potential of a 10 deathwing knight bomb, who knows!
I hope the hqs for the blood angels get some new models. Astoraths drop in points makes him look interesting and lemartes is looking better for the points now too
As a Daemon player, I’ve talked a bit with Lawrence via Facebook about my musings on this. But I still don’t think you’ll see Greater Daemons played competitively speaking, even with the points drop. The points drop for them are a good sign sure, but the problem is that there isn’t really a role for them that they do particularly well. Daemon Princes are still more survivable (by virtue of being untargetable), they’re still more killy, they still have a frankly better aura ability and they’re still cheaper. You can also make use of character targeting rules by hiding your… Read more »
Awesome way to spend my morning :D. Where do you think Y Tides sit now Bone?
Bone at 02:18:35 – ‘broadsides and storm surges in the back with coldstars and ghostkeels up the front with as many fire warriors as you can pump in there’ – literally the list Ive been building. from the sounds of it I will be getting some more points to squeeze something else in!
Are you guys sure that the beta rules still are in play? i mean bete is in play until the game comes out,,, now the game is out and the rules is not changed ?
I feel Chef’s pain for Necrons… My favorite faction so far…
But my second favorite is Mechanicus, so my overall feelings on points re-balancing.
? as a Dark Angels player I found this hilarious, all characters got a points reduction across the board… except the Dark Angels ones ? Azrael is still 180pts, Belial is still 150pts, but like you guys I was wtf!! Until I looked at the blood angel characters which have now been brought in line with the Dark Angels characters! So fair enough! As an aside I do think the death wing knights are a serious combat unit, I’m upping mine from 5 to 8, and running Belial and an ancient with them, re-rolling all misses with Belial and plus… Read more »
Can we have the Cheffs original fall salt version please ?
leaked Points changes were confusing me, the changes to missions kind of make it sensible.
My Grey Knights list dropped by 347 points…
As a Black Legion player, there are some nice takeaways; Hellforged stuff has gone down, Helbrutes seem viable and Mauler/Forgefiends have gone down making them seem pretty interesting. But truthfully, I’m getting really fed up with GW’s attitude towards Chaos – rules wise and model wise: – Cultists being more expensive than Guard is silly. – Vanilla CSM remaining untouched, while Chosen are now 1 point more is absurd. Furthermore, the former’s sculpts are like 14 years old while the latter’s don’t even exist outside of a 7th edition box set. – Abaddon being 55 points more expensive than Traijan… Read more »
Legends, exactly what I need while DIY’ing at home. And 3-hours + chef! This is going to be goooodddddd!!!!!
I swear I’m gonna riot if there’s no new Abaddon model, my Black Legion need a leader whose arms don’t fall off haha.
