My recommendations for dark/gritty fantasy is Joe Abercrombie, any of his stuff is really good for instance The Blade Itself series or the Half A… series. For more sci-fi I love the Deathstalker series by Simon R Green if you can get them still. Inventive larger-than-life characters with wit, humour and lots of bloodshed! That’s what I like outside.of the 40k universe. Thanks for the update video and keep up the good work.
I really like these kinds of videos. It’s great to hear some opinions on 40k and other things from folk you enjoy listening to.
For what it’s worth, I would love to see some different sizes of games. You addressed this in your other video, but 2k points can get a bit repetitive but even a 1.5k evey now and then would be good to see

You guys MUST read some Joe Abercrombie books… The First Law trilogy is incredible, very adult and if you like Game of Thrones there’s a Tyrion character in there… As a King Killer Chronicles fan myself, I guarantee you’ll like The First Law more after reading those books 👍👍

If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, check out “Black Company” by Glen Cook… It’s a really interesting low fantasy series told from the trenches. Based on what you said I think you would both really like it.
Fun Pop Culture Fact – David Hayter the voice actor for Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Series played Guyver in the 1994 American film Guyver Dark Hero.
Being a Fan of the Metal Gear Franchise I watched Guyver Dark Hero and came to the conclusion that David, is probably more suited to voice acting.

As a musician, there is nothing that annoys me more than when people try to hire me for little to no pay for “exposure”. Usually the gigs will give very little true exposure, and the organizers are just being cheap. So good on you guys paying painters rates that befit them.
Also Lawrence, if you want a good fantasy book in a low magic grimmdark world check out The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. It has some of the most believable characters I have ever read.
Just wanted to say that I just got into the hobby in 9th edition, and buying a 1-year premium to your channel is the best money I’ve spend so far:)

That was one of the most fair dinkum, no bull explanations, that I have ever heard when it comes to running a business, seriously very impressed. I think I can speak for a large proportion of your viewers when I say, cheers for putting as much passion into your content as you do, however please ensure that you blokes are spending as much time as possible with family, while we all dearly love your content you guys are entitled to take breaks as well.

Not commented before as I’m 100% a forum lurker, but I’d like to scuttle out of the shadows and say how awesome it is to hear a big boss man actually care about paying his painters a fair wage. There’s many reasons I stay subbed to yourselves over other content providers, the sweet eye candy that is Bone obviously being one of them, but I’m chuffed to hear that your actually thinking about the extended community at large.
I’ll stop fanboying now and return to the shadows but keep it up the good work, fellas!

Really enjoyed this sort of content guys, even if the questions weren’t directly 40k related I think there’s a lot of interest in hearing you guys interact with the community directly. Thankyou. A few people have responded to book recommendations so for what it’s worth I’ll throw my hat in and recommend that you should read Steven Erikson’s Malazan Book of the Fallen series. While it might be quite an undertaking I think the series is unparalleled and really worth the investment at some time in your life. Spider – if you haven’t read Glen Cooke’s ‘Tales of The Black Company’ you haven’t lived dark satirical fantasy! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Company Croaker is an epic character, as are they all. So dark, so twisty, so hard to pick a side, although clearly it’s always with Croaker …. just deeply epic! If we are doing book recommendations I’ve got two for your consideration. The first is Jim Butcher Furies of Calderon, and the second is Terry Mancour Spellmonger. Both are absolutely fantastic and if you like fantasy should be right up your ally.

Are you guys going to use the open war cards in any of your batreps? I just picked up a deck and they look pretty fun and add sone cool narrative elements without having to go full crusade.
Especially with the current maelstrom rules being a little clunky, open war cards might add a bit of variety alongside the tournament style missions

Question: if you could commission a GW TV series, who would it focus around (either named characters or generic unit) and who would you get to play that role?
Ive been a subscriber for a few years, since 8th edition came out. When you launched the lodge and back stage subscriptions it was a no brainer for me! The level of entertainment you give is very high! If I dont get to watch content for a little while, Im still pleased to support you guys; its so so clear to see you are all doing what you love!
