Horus Heresy minis are in essence space marines only. But I would still say that the player has/had more opportunity to customise their armies due to FW upgrade parts, transfer sheets (if they were in stock that is). Also, most of the miniatures are thankfully still multi-pose so kitbashing and magnetising is still possible. I really don’t like the newer plastic space marine characters for 30k due to their mono-pose “40k’ified” aesthetic with super over the top weapons and superfluous detail. i can’t disagree more, auxiliaries are a core part of the tau no tau armies should be 100% tau.
I really like the look of the kroot! I want to see them come out with knarlocs and greater knarlocs again, though I agree this would have made much more sense as a codex supplement for the auxiliaries. Human troops, vespid stingwings, and psychic polar bears included. I don’t think combat crisis suits would make a lot of sense lore wise and would really shift the way the army plays for the worse in my opinion. While i didn’t watch this live. I do want to shout out to Chef about the D&D. When 10th ed first dropped I lost a lot of interest in 40k, but the anticipation of more Cast of Players kept we a subscriber. I actually prefer you guys to Critical roll and Dimension 20. (special guest dm for continuation of Blood Temple perhaps?)

I kinda see the Kroot getting their own combat patrol box. From a fluff perspective could this be the start of the kroot breaking away from the tau empire?
I would very happily pay more for a Necromunda campaign. Joe writes some great narratives for 40k so I’m sure a Necromunda campaign would be a blast.
When Beard asked if the Krootox was just like someone sitting on a bigger someones shoulders I immediately remembered the new cities of Sigmar model of the big lad carrying his buddy in a watchtower on his back. Also to the Kroot comments I really don’t think people have been memeing about wanting them fleshed out or as a full army. Tau are notoriously a feels bad army to fight against more often than they’re balanced and some well done Kroot units could really help them feel a bit more even keeled without losing their identity. I’m excited for the Kroot box, but the main thing I’m worried about for an all-Kroot detachment is that Kroot don’t benefit from the main T’au army rule at all, so having a detachment that doesn’t use the army rule just doesn’t feel like an actual detachment, but just a different army with less rules. Unless they give them access to the army rule, a la Cohort Cybernetica for Ad Mec l, but that wouldn’t really synergise with Kroot.

So, I’m aware I’m in the hyper niche minority here, but I am absolutely the target audience for the Kroot release. Back in 3rd edition a much younger me had a whole White Dwarf Kroot Mercenaries force with all kinds of converted units and weapon options. Kroot with Eviscerators were my bread and butter baybeeeeeee! I even tried my best at making a homebrew codex for my Kroot in 5th edition so I could keep playing them at the time. Anyone else notice how suspicious it is that the new Kroot box is assembled EXACTLY the same as the new Flesheater Courts box? Two squads of ten new basic infantry. Three new cavalry on beast mounts. One big beast unit. And then a new flashy leader standing on the high ground. To me, this feels less like a gameplay-oriented decision and more of a design pipeline decision where they already had a ton of the basic work done for the ghouls, and then found a faction they could transfer a lot of that groundwork to. if feel like with the kroot its like okay fair enough, but its not the tau that many people want, but if they made the kroot the boarding actions army for tau then that would give them a good purpose, i find tau is best at long range and boarding actions they really struggle with, so if they can use this release and give them their own nichepart of the game that they could be decent in id be very much on board (hehe board) with that

It’s not the original 3rd Ed. Codex Cover, it’s from 4th. Funny thing is, the 3rd Ed. Codex actually has Kroot on the Cover. As far as I recall there was a Mercenary Army List for Kroot back in the day, that would have been a nice thing to but well, what can you do.
Night haunt warband look great but the army desperately needs a big hammer unit like a monster, I say this as someone who owns nearly 10k of ghosts lol
Ok gonna be honest here. For this one, Chef or Bard should have been replaced with Fletch or at least Fletch should have been in on it especially for the Kroot section because this felt like less of a discussion and more of a lament. Heres the thing. Kroot have been around since the Tau first came out. I’m in for the kroot! Adding an indigenous random ally to our crusade will be fantastic. So was the random corner attack from the tyranids of the starter box. And if they find a forgotten coldstar commander, even better. Regarding boarding action, i feel like it lacks something. Maybe picking from a 1000pts list which unit enters the frey, dices to validate units being prioritised with a number before the game starts. Ex: Bread puts his termies on roll of 1, but on that day he rolls sixes and progressively gets mader and mader, you know a fun game^^^ btw… Read more »
I do like the look of the new kroot and I would love a kroot army! But I agree that now they are a supplement army so should get their own book. I would love new auxiliaries as well though!

So with the team trying seasonal content, I thought a fun idea for a season might be playing these smaller game systems like Warcry, Kill Team, Underworlds, etc. Play a new game every week or so, and then at the end of the “Season” you guys and the community discuss and vote on your favorites and then maybe those favorites become new regular content.
The logistics of that might be rough with painting warbands and all, but thought I’d share the idea all the same. Cheers.
