This was really helpful. I don’t think I’m going to play Chaos any time soon, but at least now I understand them!
Very new player and I love the Salamanders but if I did choose Chaos, it would be thousand sons. Cool colour and magic sounds fun
I’ve been very tempted to pick up some Death Guard after Fletchers painting guide. It would require me to buy and learn how and airbrush works but boy howdy was that tutorial an inspiration
no mention of Chaos Daemons or Chaos Knights as an army?
I always said when Emperors Children got a proper release I’d dive in. Their vibe of ‘chasing the high’ of perfection and never touching it seemed very resonant with me. And as an Aeldari player the Slaaneshi fall is so much a part of 40k as villains they really appeal.
Already got a DG and EC Army. The ECs need some converting to fit the new units and (cue worlds tiniest, screechiest violin that sets your nerves ablaze) have more noise marines than I’m allowed to field (wracking, gorgeous sobs). What I really want, really, really want (other than a cig-a-cigar) is my beloved Alpha Legion to get a set of hilariously stupid rules where you can control people’s units for a turn or old fantasy Skaven 13th spell style turn enemy models into screaming cultists, and once per battle rules where you shoot me? I was never really there.… Read more »
For the all father and for russ
I wasn’t all that excited by the World Eaters release… Until I saw a great Chaos Lord of Khorne conversion and now I’ve just bought a Bhaos Lord and a whole world of Bezerkers… So… yeah… Blood for the Blood God it is …
“Get yourself a Lord of Contagion” – good joke ^^
Its always been World Eaters I’m with Katie, when I first started many moons ago they were the simplest to play and may well still be. Charge and kill only use two phases!. Even now when I use vehicles it’s usually Maulerfiends so again stick to the charge philosophy. Having watched the codex reviews and seeing some games with all the gods I do think they have had the harshest treatment by GW. But still always fun to play
What has me hesitant to start a CSM army is all the trim! lol gonna be rough to paint all that trim. That and also because my 2 favorite chaos legions I want to start with first don’t really have much going for them in 40K as far as specific models go. And that’s iron warriors and night lords
World Eaters brought me back into the hobby after I left the hobby at the end of 7th edition. Currently have World Eaters, Emperor’s Children, and Night Lords. I enjoy all three of the ranges, some of the overlap between them, and the fact I can use 30k bits and models to customize my units. CSM to me really has more kitbash potential and hobbying freedom compared to the loyalists to really make them my own, which is why I am a firm CSM collector and player. As far as playstyle, EC really are my more preferred mobile hit and… Read more »
Started a EC army, got the Starter/Special box, two combat patrols, a heresy land raider and 3 heresy rhinos, Fulgrim, lucius, 2 daemon princes (one walking and the other with wings), 2 Spawn (using the aos slaangor), 15 terminators and 2 Lord Kakophonists.
So yeah, I kinda went all in hahaha
Don’t forget them big chaos knight boys❤️
Chaos Space Marines! Love all the options.
I only started playing warhammer in october of 2024 and death guard was my first army because after watching games online, I really liked how tough the units were and they have a unique playstyle. Also, I’ve always really liked both zombies and giant bug monsters, BOTH of which are present as units in the death guard lmao so it hit both marks of cool model design and fun gameplay for me.
Ok, so I think I get the intention of the video and I don’t want to demotivate people who fall in love with Chaos too much. The armies are certainly in a better spot than at other times and many current playstyles seem to be interesting, fun and in some cases quite strong. They have some really cool models too. So all in all certainly not the worst time to start. If one of them is clearly the army for you, go for it! But if someone is equally interested in armies like Imperial Guard, Tyranids, Tau, Necrons, Eldar and… Read more »
I’ve been an Imperial fanboy for a while. When the Emperors Children dropped, I knew they would be my first go with Chaos. I’m a huge Hellraiser fan and the look sold it. (I love seeing Death Guard on the table but they’re too gross to paint 🙂 )
Super informative stuff! My first army was the Death Guard, I took them out for a spin at the weekend using some Nurgle Demons and it was a blast. Definetly gave me the bug to pick up some more models.
I know it would take a while to do, but it would be really cool if you done a video like this to cover every faction; what they do, how to play them and what you could look at for starting an army
After painting several thousand points of space marines. It is a lot of the same. I wanted something interesting to paint. Death guard have some of the best looking and unique models. They are so much fun to paint.
You mention body horror a few times when discussing the EC. I’d say that Death Guard are more Cronenberg style body horror (think The Fly, Videodrome, Scanners etc.) whilst EC are more like Tetsuo or Titane. The World Eaters butcher’s nails are more akin to this as well.
I can’t really think of any cinematic body horror that would represent the 1KSons. Maybe the body mutations from the Heresy era, but not the dusty rubrics we have in 40K. I guess soulless automata could equate to Romero’s zombies in a way?
I’m going to build Thousand Sons for Hero Mode.
Got about 3k points of Death Guard and 4,5k points of World Eaters. Next project into the world of chaos is going to be an Alpha Legion army (Light of the Emperor shines, or does it..?) headed by Vashtorr and all the daemon engines I can think of. Once I get through with all the current projects first…
I’ve been toying with the idea of a World Eaters army for a while now, and even picked up a Goremongers kit for Kill Team. But I keep running into the issue that I already HAVE a berserker melee army in my Space Wolves. 5000 points of them! And I’d like to play something different. So maybe, just maybe, I join Beard and build a really shooty Iron Warriors siege force?
Just started a new CSM army, painting them as The Pyre Warband “Orange”. The CSM range is just so good, tons of options, great looking models, and fun rules.
Death Guard and Thousand Sons for me. I have a sizable Death Guard army from when I returned to the game in 8th edition after skipping most of 7th, and I’ve been using the new codex hype as inspiration to get the army fully painted. Thousand Sons are my much smaller army which I starter jn 9th edition, and I’ll be tidying them up once I finish my Death Guard.
I have 5500 points of death guard and preordered the emperors children box set to get started there to give me access to the opposite play style. Was really disappointed with the lack of helbrutes and predators though
I just started an Emperor’s Children army, after having the Forgeworld Fulgrim Ascended model on my shelf for a long time. I did a bit of converting using the new Fulgrim pieces. I was always put off a little by chaos because I am not a particular lover of the whole ‘corruption’ aspect, so I hoping to lean into and convert my way into some beautiful Emperor’s Children, using bikes as proxies for fiends and fallen sisters of battle as demonettes.
Death Guard through and through! (except when im playing my Necron or BA).
I have always loved the models ever since I had an old 5th edition booklet from my local GW. Back then all the detail was very intimidating but now I have thrown myself in to the arms of the Grandfather and have amassed about 6K worth of Nurgly goodness.
Beard are you falling from your disseased faith? Ofcourse there are only 7 plague marines in the Combat Patrol as it’s Nurgle favorite number! (not 10) 😉
I my self (after my T’au) am a dedicated Death Guard player and loving the new codex so far, started with the Dark Imperium box set on this journey.
Grey Knight player here who has now dove headfirst into Thousand Sons. The battle report you guys just did was a dream come true. Really hoping GK get a psychic “phase” again to watch these two armies sling spells and force powers across the table at one another.
I painted my very first plague marine while watching your review of the new codex ^.^
My son has recently joined the hobby last year, I’ve been collecting for around 38 years, earlier this year we’ve both decided to separately join the Death Guard (and very happy after the codex released) It’s a nice hobby project for us, he’s going done the traditional GW model route, loves adding vomit, rust and slime to his models. Myself I’ve gone down the route of using a 3rd party range that are 3d printed, the models are more nautical themed, think bioshock meets pirates of Caribbean/Davy Jones type theme. Both of us loving working on our projects together and… Read more »
Hey, ive got a random question. Ive noticed the last few videos your T-Shirts looks really good. The print and colour is very vibrant. Have you changed where you get them?
