Hero Mode DLC Rules: Epic Character Co-Op 40k!
Have you ever wanted to play co-operatively on the tabletop with your friends as epic gods of war, just like in Space Marine 2?
Well now you can with this DLC add on for Poorhammer’s awesome Horde Mode rules. For those of you not familiar, Horde Mode allows you to play 40k co-operatively against a ‘horde’ based AI. It’s a really fun way to throw your collections down on the table and create some epic moments, which we’ll do in a Battle Report on our show soon.
The goal when creating this DLC was to allow you to play with a small group of epic heroes, however the rules are very much in a version 1 beta stage and do not play with the Horde Mode ruleset perfectly. As written though, they can be played out of the gate and certainly make for some entertaining games!
I recommend that when spawning the horde, more infantry and non heavy vehicle units are chosen, as the heavier stuff in 40k will prove overwhelming to the player characters if deployed on mass. With that said, if there’s enough interest in me expanding Hero Mode, I will write it’s own mission and objective card set, separating it from Poorhammer’s Horde Mode and creating it’s own mini game for 40k. This can then be balanced from the ground up, rather than forcing it into Horde Mode.
As this process was inspired by wanting to represent Space Marine 2 on the tabletop, I have also written data sheet rules to represent the heroes of both Space Marine 2 and Boltgun in games of Warhammer for your enjoyment below.
These rules are entirely fan made and in no way official or endorsed by Games Workshop Limited. Permission is granted to download the rules below for personal use.
See you on the battlefield!

After watching the battle report, I’m going to give this a go with my son. I think he’s going to love it.
Just watched this, brilliant! More of this please 🙂
I am excited to try this! I’ve been eyeing up the Horde Mode gameplay for a while but this is just more epic. Time to paint those nids from leviathan box.
Thank you for putting the time and effort into developing good (and the horde report). Cheers
