With all 4 of the Daemon Primarchs unleashed and potential suspicions and speculations of more loyalist Primarchs on the way are we likely to see more very soon. Now, we all love the drama and spectacle of the Primarchs. It’s their story that a lot of the core ideas and themes of 40k are now built around, but would more be a huge leap forward for the game of 40k – or quite a step back?

Rogal Dorn should come back, look at the state of the universe, enact the Last Wall Protocol, say “Peace out” to Guilliman, paint his armour black and go crusading with his reformed legion! 😃
Bring me Legion of the Damned Primarch Ferrus Manus.
As far as bringing the flavor back, give me the Chaos 3.5e codex again. Every legion was so unique. Earthshakers for the Iron Warriors. Special cultists for the alpha legion. Every legion had something unique about it. And they managed to fit it all into a singular codex. Imperial Guard had the same with every regiment a bit later on. They seem to go through the cycle of streamlined and nuanced over and over again.
I like your theory that they could create a top tier game format for bringing in the big units like primarchs. Perhaps that is also a good place to allow the units which have been resigned to ‘Legends’ status back into regular play. (Unlikely because GW are phasing out resin kits)
.
But it means my tantalus will fly again!!
If they changed 40k to be based on a D10 system it would solve a lot of thier scalping issues
Mission decks are back in stock on gw as of this morning
What I miss was in 3/4th edition. Named characters were only aloud to be used in certain point games. I do feel like it needs to be introduced again since every game I played, there has been armies with 3 to 4 different named characters and they feel less special.
Corvus Corax is in the Warp, very deliberately trying to hunt down Lorgar. He found him, beat him six ways to Suffolk, then Lorgar went and hid behind a magic door like a lil nerd. Corvus didn’t so much become a Daemon. It was described as ’embracing the true nature all Primarchs suppress,’ which is likely hinting at the dubious Warp shenanigans Big E used in their creation.
Lorgar comes back and joins the Black Templars in atonement, since he wrote the book haha
Also….Dorn as the Templars primarch…Angry, broken, massive two handed chainsword but only one hand….imagine Guts from Berserk….
So I think one of the big issues with Space Marines are the Adeptus Custodes being released as a Tabletop faction. Personally I think the Custodes occupy the space that Astartes should occupy, both in number, power level and general badassery. I would remove them as a faction – add them as an “ally” faction so you can drop one or two in your army and have them have loony stats. Because you read a lot of the lore it is unusual for battle companies to deployed on mass and most issues are solved by no more than a squad… Read more »
Dorn coming back is a good shout, but not to be discovered by the Templars. Give him to the Crimson Fists! I think Vulkan is the most likely to be honest. And sadly this isn’t driven by story line or fluff; but real world events and economics. With the Amazon show, we can assume there will be new interest; and the age old question of “who are the good guys?” I think 11th edition will show a change of poster boys – Salamanders out of the fire and to the fore… because they are the good guys. This makes 40k… Read more »
Khan chased dark eldar into the webway when they were raiding a world
The supplements are a red herring. They are there for the really not compliant chapters. The primarchs that aren’t conclusively dead will likely return as they are good business for GW. Would be nice to see the other founding chapters getting units that are more specific for them though. 1-2 that you can use in founding chapters and their successors. I also wouldn’t bet against Ferrus Manus coming back as a dreadnought. GW have been setting up the primarchs having some sort of warp woo, so sticking his skull in a giant dreadnought body and doing some techno magic would… Read more »
If we end up with Bobby G, The Lion, and Russ, then Dorn would be the fourth blonde Primarch! My Space Marine fever dream is that this rumored Space Marines 2.0 splits Ultramarines into their own book, makes all the supplements into their own Codexes, and then the remaining loyalists become their own book. I’d also love (controversially) for the Space Marines to lose a few datasheets as they’re getting ridiculous now. Each book then has its own detachments etc, rather than everyone feeling like Ultramarines in different colours. I’d also like to put another hope out into the warp… Read more »
If any ones read the Thor comics where he becomes OdinThor, that’s the Russ I want
Isn’t Aaron Dempski -Bowden head of narrative at GW now?
I’d like to see Russ back as he feels like he has the most scope for creative design from GW. I think they’ve nailed on the style of the other potential loyalist primarchs to return with the Horus Heresy line, and I don’t know how well a 40k version would hold up against them. On the chaos side of things, I’d love to see Perturabo or Lorgar get the 40k treatment, although of the 2 I’d prefer big angry Perty as I adore how the chaos demon engines look. I think they could have a lot of fun with the… Read more »
Beard hit it square on for me with his Space Marine 2 comment – marines on the tabletop are nothing like marines throughout the rest of the IP. Lore-wise Space Marines are like Jedi but on the tabletop they’re more like Stormtroopers. What should be something special feels more like a pawn – the bread-and-butter of the tabletop experience. In my opinion, Games Workshop missed a trick with the Primaris update – instead of making Space Marines better, Primaris could have been used to introduce a lesser variant and a narrative reason for more plentiful but more expendable foot soldiers.… Read more »
Russ is 100% coming back next for no other reason than money. No way GW could miss out on that cash cow. Most of the primarchs I think will also come back for this reason, whether the lore suits it or not.
I do think that the authors have done an amazing job bringing them back already, and it’s given them a way to tell new stories about these beloved characters in (essentially) a new universe. I’m looking forward more to how they come back as opposed to if/when.
Rogal Dorn will be found by Pedro Kantor sand the Crimson Fists! They’ve become a fleet based chapter after the Rynn’s world disaster
Hot take, but splitting Space Marines into separate Codexes was the start of the problem. 90+% of the “special” stuff in the books is essentially interchangeable, just with a different colour scheme and attitude. This is what has put us into a horrible grind of waiting years for ranges to be updated and the desperate need to sell more of existing kits (see all the point cost discounts). GW just need to get comfortable with releasing cool model kits because they’re cool model kits. They don’t need to print special rules for people to want to buy to awesome new… Read more »
C’mon guys, Dorn’s coming back as an assault centurion. Assault centurion body, his head sticking out, sitting in the emperor’s lap building a wall of magic boxes to fortify against Magus’s rage
Weren’t the Iron Warriors in the lore the creators and users of the techno virus? So obliterators etc. They could release a new Iron Warriors army that is a mix between appropriate CSM units and dark mech… with Perty at the head
They should never have brought them back tbh. There was a reason they were background fluff. Now every game you see them, even most online bat reps have them in every game. Now you have really boring to fight against models to deal with constantly. Not to mention them making everyone lesser seem redundant (who cares about Calgar or Azrael now?). It’s a shame as the idea of these lesser chapter masters taking over was really cool, with the primarchs being almost a myth. It made the world more interesting. And now they insist on advancing the story, only they… Read more »
I believe I read that Dorn is prophesied to come back when the black templars are in a final stand against fulgrim
The lore is so expansive that I forgot some details of certain loyalist primarch’s whereabouts or hinted “signs of life” but I would really love to see Dorn come back. With that being said though I’m 50/50 on more primarchs returning. The loyalist being outnumbered and barely scraping by with what they have now is an important part of what the imperium is now and bringing more primarchs back takes that away a bit. Also takes away some of the impact of the HH and post HH events slightly. But I wouldn’t be against it, plot wise they can just… Read more »
Isnt corvus corax chasing down lorgar in the warp somewhere??
Is Michael ok? Doesn’t seem to be on as much
The only Primarch return i want is Jaghatai Khan and Aun Shi escaping from commoragh with the theme from The Great Escape blaring in the background.
32:44 Beard is right and what I hoped for when I saw the salamander picture in the road map. 33:36 Katie is right. Want. That whole section is just do it.
i had to rewind because i thought beard called the wolf time space 9/11 😂😂😂
Being the massive White Scar lunatic that I am, the thought of the the next edition being the edition of bikes makes me very happy (although having tweaked 18 of the bloody awful monopose Outrider kit, the thought of them being obsolete makes me a little sad 😂). I would also love for the Khan to get a model – it would be so cool. He isn’t under the palace though. The last bit of lore about Jaghatai, was he was charging into a webway gate with the 1st company, chasing some Dark Eldar dude. It would be easy enough… Read more »
What if Dorn comes back with the Emperor’s lighting claw? All the loyalist primarchs have had something from the Emperor himself (Guilliman has the sword, Lion has the Shield.) since Dorn is missing his left hand the claw could replace that?
I think an idea for a Primarch turning renegade would be a great way to inject some life and lore into Primarchs and legions that don’t get much play in 40k. I think that would be a great opportunity for Jaghatai to come back and see what has become of the imperium and Chaos legions and do his own thing for what he believes is to the betterment of humanity and all the potential warcrimes and disasters that may bring. A legion like the White Scars which seems to be mostly forgotten in 40K could gain much needed lore and… Read more »
Latest mission pack…
For anyone trying to find it, and with blue light card discount, magic madhouse seem to think they have them (or did this morning) where the beloved element were saying 1st August.
Caveat: got a very basic phone that gets websites up like it’s 2006 so don’t get too excited.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again – bring back Omegon as a loyalist Primarch, at the head of a chapter of Primaris Alpha Legion. Fully supported by the lore and stories that have already been published, and would shake up the status quo of the Imperium quite radically. I am not really a fan of the return of Primarchs in general. I’d much rather GW concentrated on bringing back characters that have disappeared to Legends as support for players who have chosen less codex-compliant chapters (e.g. Lias Issodon, Asterion Moloch, Carab Culln, Gabriel Seth etc.). Not… Read more »
We need the KHAN!!!!! Please, please it would be awesome! And they (GW) can sort out marine bikes!
Ferrus Manus should be the next primarch to come back. Leading the Legion of the Damned. Full Ghost rider motif, all black covered in fire with a flaming skull or ball of fire for a head.
You don’t even need new models/units for the army. Just have an upgrade sprue with flaming heads and weapons. The army could have a similar detachment to deathwatch with teleport uppy/downy shenanigans.
If I could go back in time and be better at painting fire. I would redo my whole army as Legion of the Damned.
I agree with Katie, if we are bringing back all the primarchs wouldn’t the A-symetric game play be a good place to put them in? Hell maybe even all the Titanic units aswell? That way you can keep competative play a bit cleaner (maybe more balanced also.. heresy speaking there.. we are talking about GW ofcourse) As per Primarch coming back.. Russ would be a good guess, but with the hint towards the Salamanders coming (and they had a suplement book before, and a very old Vulkan model in that) It could be him coimng back and maybe him rallying… Read more »
The way James reacts for Dark Angel things. My man, you are not beating Lawrence’s allegations!
Just wished to add that I thought the comparison between what WH40K and AoS focus on was a really apt one and I thought really illustrated the current challenge of incorporating the Primarchs to WH40K. I will, though, complimen the fourth edition that while it has its issues, all of systems have, I do think they have really managed to make this big heroes feel truly impactful on the table. They really make the army jump in different ways if played smartly. Of course, since this is GW, they’ve still managed to make it weird as despite having the game… Read more »
From the larger universe point, I thought Beard made of one of the central points in the video when he brought up the criticism about how the larger WH40K is not moving along at all. And James’s counter-examples of how there are actually stuff happening is actually more of a point the current issue as, yeah, GW introduced new elements, but almost none of it is actually building up to anything. This is an increasing problem as instead of resolving the thread-lines that already exist, GW just keeps introducing new ones. And it is becoming to really get invested in… Read more »
Bring back Lorgar in a golden armour with six feathered wings and a demonic face a contrast to the Emperor like a fallen angel. I would be a happy man and you can give him priest powers and buffs!
Dorn should stay dead otherwise his sacrifice meant nothing. Vulkan makes sense but would require an elevation of the salamanders in the lore as there’s only about 700 of them. Corax went mad and walked into the warp, if he comes back he should be chaos. The karn could come back, but again narratively I’m not sure how much sense that would make. Russ should come back missing an eye like Odin Lorgar and Erebus should come back as horrible deamonic bastards And perturabo should come back as a walking deamonic land train covered in ordnance All the others should… Read more »
I agree to an extent with what James says but also remember that 95% of the time in the game, primarchs aren’t “competitive.”
Same with most centre piece models, avatar of khaine isn’t the most competitive choice within lists. So whilst I was also scared of 40K essentially being new heresy with all these primarchs, I don’t think if they release more primarchs well necessarily see them fielded that often
As a vindictive xenos player, I think a fun idea would be to have the Khan return as a Drukhari pain engine (perhaps a very slow one, if we wanted to be extra mean). You could do a big range refresh for the Drukhari and add a bunch of new models specifically for white scars as the story becomes about them seeking revenge. If that’s too bitter a pill to swallow (and I appreciate it is quite cruel to White Scars fans), they could advance the lore later to have the White Scars rescue the Khan, with the pain engine… Read more »
I sent a full theory/tinfoil garment about this a couple of months ago via the old submission lol, must have been lost in the ether
James – read the Russ Primarch book. As a Dark Angel fan you will like it (and see how wrong you are about Russ and Jonson).
Also keep Dorn dead. Jaghatai, Crow-boi and Vulkan are enough after Russ. We don’t need angry-Guilliman, he adds nothing worth the effort.
… and SM are an utter mess model-, lore- and gameplay-wise at this point. Nothing looks quite right or feels right currently.
