The Old World: End of the Edition, or Just Getting Started?

Warhammer the Old world returned last year upon a glorious stead of nostalgia and memory. A year and a half later though and we have a huge all new Cathay release, an army that some thought would never materialise, every initial faction available and support for legacy armies and factions GW said they wouldn’t touch. That seems like a lot, so it begs the question is this the end of the current edition or is Warhammer the Old World only just getting started?

Talking about needing a new staff member : is Ed still a part of TT ? Haven’t seen him in a while but didn’t catch any “goodbye” announcement either :/ Wishing him the best if he left, glad to have him back if he is temporarily away !

I would love to see more Old World. I feel it is different enough from 40K that I would not get bored and there are plenty of Sigmar gaming channels (in my opinion). Would also love to see Heresy

Nooo! Don’t say they’ll boot Dark Elves to TOW! – CoS needs the metropolitan feel, it can’t just be human Freeguilders; GW have already made a lot of my projects unplayable before I’ve finished them (Maybe that’s my fault for be such a sow painter) :s And the Sky Junk? – Curious. But I can’t help think just because it’s written about doesn’t mean it’ll be in game; lots of the AoS battletomes and 40K codexes describe unit they’ve killed off. Flip-side though, I am tempted by ToW for the complexity they’ve stripped from 40K and AoS, and look forward… Read more »

Even if you just swap out 1 of the 40K battle reports a month for an old world one that would be fantastic

I believe the old world takes place 200 to 260 years before the end times and they had reasons in game lore as to why the factions in legacy where there

I see a few comments mentioning the potential swapping of a 40K report for another system like Old world every two weeks. Just thought I’d say I’d be up for that, I don’t play 40K anymore, I’m pretty much subscribed because I like the production quality of your videos and you guys in general, and I’m holding out for the time when you do cover another system! Don’t get me wrong I like keeping up with 40K vicariously through you, it’s just not a game for me currently.

Forgive me for potentially being crass and please know this comes from someone who works in the creative industry and appreciates how unappetising this suggestion will seem to some: Video editing is incredibly time-consuming and I believe you’ve said elsewhere that it takes a day or two of a cast member’s time to edit a single batrep. Could you not farm out this work to talented editors in foreign countries where the CoL is considerably cheaper? Cloud platforms have long been at a stage where this is technically feasible in terms of data etc and it’s a win-win as a… Read more »

I keep expecting them to rerelease the dogs of war – those units don’t have to be freed from AoS first.

I think the pressure to put out two 40k games a week because you think that’s what the On Demand subs want might be exactly that, you think that’s what we want, when really I imagine the majority of us wouldn’t mind at all if you guys broke away a bit every few weeks or so and filmed something different. A lot of us support you because we like you guys and the quality of the videos you make are second to none, but there is some flexibility in the actual content of said videos. Obviously there is the buisness… Read more »

Would love more of the legacy armies. I’ve always wanted a dark elf army rank and file (to compliment the Drukhari…) But fell hard for old hammer on the release and currently going more of my Pegasus Knights for ‘The Lady’

Bards got it. They didn’t wanna do skaven and vampire counts cuz they’re equals in aos were coming down the pipe with releases. Now that they’ve released they can announce they’re addition to old world. They didn’t want competition on selling the product for the two game systems

I like the idea of a weekly rotation of games, I mean, I could miss a 40K game for another game. Although the studio has a lot of 40K armies I do hear in the games the “I would want more pox walkers” or “wish I had another unit of ….” It must be hard for yourselves to keep up with that many 40K games, , model counts and who has vs who sort of thing. Maybe a few boarding action, old world, AOS or kill team. It might give you all a little time to re do the 40K… Read more »

Good vid guys. I really enjoy OW and would love to see more OW bat reps, appreciate for you guys there is a cost time consideration given you are primarily known for 40k.

Have I gone blind.. I can’t see that the legacy pdfs have changed on the Warhammer Community web site? I wonder, have they previewed them for you guys but not put them out for download?

I still need to read the matched play book and see if that adds something other than “kill each other” which was a pretty big disappoinment for me.

I really like these specials you guys do, they’re always very interesting to watch and it’s nice to see people having an actually intelligent conversation about something for once.

Have you guys thought about a doing a Warhammer Lore series? (Just saying 🤷‍♂️)

I think we need to move away from normalising new editions every 3 years like it’s just expected. Rather than being a meaningful change that needed to happen and improved the game.
9th and 10th in 40k just felt like they did it because they could rather than because it actually added anything. Hoping they take more time and care with old world with it being more specialist.

I’m praying for vampire coast before norsca. Now that would be a range to rival Cathay.

I’ve been wondering with all the work you all have been doing about different teams that cover each system (40k,aos, old world, heresy) as Spider stated, team members need a salary. What if a division of the team for each system, and have guests come in to play these systems, would help alleviate that?
I know for me, the terrain problems for playing in my area have been huge (they follow ITC terrain layout) in my not playing 40k anymore. I still watch just you guys to support the channel. I would devour aos/old world content.

I think it’s unlikely for there to be a 2nd edition of old world for a while considering the recent rules refresh / update. There is plenty of scope for new armies, new journals of new characters and units of existing armies or even supporting legacy armies into full fledged forces, before needing any 2nd edition. Arcane journals do the job of a new edition by adding rules that make old unviable units better, meaning low selling options suddenly become better sellers

I’ve been thinking on Old World batreps from y’all, and the issues of getting a good ROI on them being an issue. We’ve also seen a stopping of AoS batreps (I’m not a Sigmar fan and don’t really care for the batreps, but I know tons of OnDemand members are), while at the same time y’all have mentioned Trench Crusadr batreps are coming (hell yeah) and you’ve strongly alluded to HH coming to the fore, which sounds great. With the way the studio’s schedules of releases go, considering staffing for gameplay, filming, and editing, while keeping in mind that 40k… Read more »

I’m excited to see you guys talk about the Old World and that you want to cover it more, just that there are logistical issues. I believe we will know what they have in mind for TOW after this new reveal show on the 18th. Keep up the good work 👍

The matches play guide has basically taken scenarios and secondaries from Kings of War and the 9th Age and later 8th edition comp packs and just put them in an official pack. We’ve been a big fan of these for ages. The new errata faq is such a good step because of the change to infantry but has made a mess of the rules (although they still haven’t properly addressed skirmishers). Has any other gw game system had such changes to the core rules mid edition? I know 40k has made some changes but I don’t think such a fundamental… Read more »
