The Eldar planes I understand. The Warwalker is iconic! I feel it fits the aesthetic myself. Plus I just love my Eldar.
Hold my Lasgun, the Hydra?!? That tank is brilliant! This is pure unadulterated heresy
Very interesting discussion. Looking at James’s dislike of fliers and artillery pieces in particular I think that maybe the problem is that certain units such as those should be in games of 3000 points and up where the board would be much bigger. The basilisk used to have a minimum firing range as well as a maximum, this should be on all units that can fire out of LOS.
For me with space marines, I want them to just do the Heresy squad styling properly. Have 2 units – 1. tactical squad (which can be equipped in the diff ways to take the role for intercessors, assault intercessors or tactical squad having a range of weapons) 2. Specialists – squad can be given either all plasma, all pyre, all rocket launcher etc. You can then go for other datasheets doing similar- e.g. “heavy specialist squad” -gravis suits that get melta, bolt storm gauntlets, flame gauntlets, heavy rifles etc. Clip the range down to a smaller array of data sheets… Read more »
If I remember my 2nd Ed lore, didn’t the Squats have their Ancestor Lord that was a kind of Psyker? The Grimnir model is weird and could have been done much better, but there is backing for it.
Katie makes a great point about how aimless the lore development of the Necrons has been over the years. One of the big holes in the story side of the game.
Salamanders player here, get rid of the war suit. It makes no sense with dreadnaughts. Get rid of all flyers and primarchs and then put them in a separate game mode designed for them. I love the lore around the primarchs but they don’t work on the table in my opinion because either they are too overpowered (which would fit the Lore but no fun gameplay wise) or they are balanced but then don’t fit the lore.
WE’RE JUST NORMAL MEN!
Edit: gAUnt and gAnt are definitely different sounds. Although totally agree on deleting small gun-toting bugs in general.
Bard’s roast of the trench-peeking nids was all time.
If they did traitor guard, I would definitely create an army based on a dirty Prosperine Spire Guard theme. Yes, I know they probably all died during the burning of Prospero, but I think it would be cool. Plus, they would go well with my TSons army.
Admech player and fan here. The tall sniper guy is the correct choice to remove. He’s not strong enough, and frankly the Vindicare Assassin is better at being a sniper (shieldbreaker is amazing). The electropriests are very strong melee units, and an important part of the cult in lore. Remember that the Admech codices used to be split into 2 books. There was the Cult Mechanicus with a focus on the religious zealots, and then the Skitarii with a focus on the martial arm. While those 2 subfactions are combined in a single codex in 10th edition, the 2 should… Read more »
I know they gave Emperor’s Children a free pass, but honestly you could rid of the Sorcerer. He doesn’t get to scout or infiltrate, so he limits the potential of the units he’s attached to, and his ability is basically useless. Giving cover, when cover is so easy to get in 10th, and ignores cover is pretty easy to get, just feels pointless
YOU LEAVE MY PLANES ALONE BARD!!! In all seriousness eldar have got 2 units with issues but one of them can be fixed.
Night spinner needs to lose indirect and then just be a good anti infantry tank
Shroud runners need to be dropped into the ocean from a great height. Who asked for stealthy guerrilla warfare expert snipers… ON JETBIKES????
The Grimnir from Votan is actually just an old world Runelord. Port it across there (minus the hover things)
@James – I’d disagree on the Hydra, because there’s still utility with the number of fly units in the game. For me, I’d get rid of the wyvern. It’s pointless. Usurped by more, and dare I say better, indirect units, and tbh indirect has whacked Astra Militarum very hard. I can’t remember the last battle report anywhere that used the Wyvern
Why chop units? People bought and painted those models. I was devastated when GW removed my beautiful Grot Tanks. I have 24 of them….. You suggest removing Sisters of Silence. No thank you. Lore wise they belong with the Custodes as Talons of the Emperor. No chopping please. Instead give those units weird rules som better rules
While the Invader is very daft it was made to replace the Attack Bike which was afaik universally liked. I do like a lot of the other points, especially the trimming / condensing (spore mines, overlords). Also that the divergent chapters should get their own books ala Death Guard etc.
Very interesting discussion! I agreed with most points, but as a Thousand Sons player, I disagree with the notion that the Sekhetar Robots don’t fit the faction. In the days of the Great Crusade, the XV Legion were still very small in number and made great use of psychically-linked automata (as well as being one of the most heavily mechanized legions) to act as force multipliers. The Castellax-Achea pattern automata are a Thousand Sons unique HH unit, for example. The Thousand Sons also kinda invented Librarian Dreadnoughts, so I find it frustrating that the Blood Angels of all factions have… Read more »
Do Phobos stuff in a Special raven Guard / Raptors army with new rules.
Love this discussion – very entertaining and enjoy all the opinions in the comments. I agree with a bunch of your picks. I would say from me Custodes should go as a faction , make 1 an option in imperial agents but up their points and power. Probably both knights should go as a full army as well. Take 1 as an ally with the respective choas/imperium. Leagues of Votann would be better if their style was more akin to the necromunder ones. Also I’d be happy if Tau just went away and we all pretend they never happened. Space… Read more »
Do you guys have a discord now?
psykers have no place in votann, space marines should never be silly and centurions and the invader atv are silly
I would get rid of every first born equipment from space marines and focus more on chapter specific units. I would also get rid of the dominus class knights from the chaos knights because they have new models coming out that just fit better.
As a World Eaters main, I get your comments on the Slaughterbound… like why make this guy up when there’s so many things in the lore that already exist and don’t have models (cough Red Butchers). His rules aren’t good, his weapon is D2 (Where’s his internal bloodthirster?) but the one kit that really got me was the Goremongers…. why on earth do we have more Jakhals but with robot legs… could have been anything marine related… but no… another Jakhal… so much the range needs, so much good lore for things they could have (Berzerker Jug Cavalry, Red Butchers,… Read more »
Don’t worry James. My pick for the sisters would be much much more hated on. As I don’t think the paragon warsuits make any sense in a sisters army and I’d get rid of them. The tech it self is obviously based off of the grey knights and that tech is suppose to be of joint or straight xenos origin. Even Beyond that it just seems weird and out of place.
Time to watch the rest .
As a lore note, the Thousand Sons have dreadnoughts because they trick people into becoming them when they ask the thousand sons for knowledge.
As a die hard dwarf fan, dwarves in any setting are the best, I gotta say nah. I think the Votann fit in 40k, their roots are in the lore, model range is great and they offer a different perspective than other factions, they are grim dark in their own way, if they were just an imperial clone/sub-faction or edgy xenos army that would be more boring, imo. Grimnyr is janky lore wise should be a runesmith. It’s the newest faction and we only have a single codex of lore and a collection of short stories from KT books and… Read more »
I honestly would Ctrl+Alt+Delete the Adeptus Custodes then add singular Custodians into the Imperial Agents and have their data sheets be absolutely terrifying, along with Sisters in Silence.
That also frees up the Custodes space to be occupied by marines.
I was listening to this on my drive home from work, and had to pull over. The idea of a imperial cult army. In the new Black Templar book Broken Crusade, they basically have a cult army lead by a blind priest. Its an army of mostly civilians/eclesiarchy who volunteered to help retake a world attacked by chaos marines (world eaters if memory serves). There is a fleet of this army that is waiting to join with the Templars for the crusade.
The new Thousand Sons robots make sense in that the cult of the Pyrae would utilize castellax and other robots through psychically linking their minds to them. I think they actually should have like a specific psyker model with them that just leads the squad and that should’ve been the unit
Dinner lady Creed. Please, for the love of the Emperor get rid of that model lol. I agree on most of the others too such as the desolation squad and lanky mech guy. Although in terms of the Beast Master I don’t think it should be removed, I think that it should be updated along with all the beasts. Like the khymerae only had two models when it should’ve been a pack of them, the razorwing flock is only one model when it should’ve been multiple units (think they used to be units of 1-3), the clawed fiend was awesome… Read more »
Here’s my *extremely* controversial take: Get rid of every Epic Hero. Named characters simply shouldnt be a part of our tabletop games.
I’m very disappointed, no mention of daemons at all. Like there not a faction. They are the original og’s of the chaos gods
Disagree on the Beast Snagga stuff as It was my main attraction to start an Ork army, I feel It fits. For my armies? Tyranids – Barbgaunts – Dont know why these were made. Don’t really fit the army, Is It a cow? Isnt that the Tyrannofex style? Aeldari – Kinda agree that the War Walker doesnt fit that well into the rest of the range, but I love them. Mine would be the nightspinner. Doesnt really fill a role that Aledari lacks, and I dont like the turrett design compared to Fire Prism. Support weapons are also weird, but… Read more »
Don’t you dare take my ATVs away from me.
For the factions that I play, T’au, Orks, Grey Knights, Thousand Sons, Tyranids, Aside from flyers / planes, I would get rid of the following: T’au: Storm Surge, doesn’t fit the mobile strike force that T’au represent Grey Knights: Everything not in Terminator Armour. Doesn’t feel elite enough. Orks: I’m fine with keeping the Beast Snagga Stuff, just make it an alternative model for the equivalent data sheets. I’d say remove the Gorkanaut, Morkanaut and Stompa. Thousand Sons: I agree, get rid of the generic vehicles, to make way for faction specific ones. Tyranids: the Norn Emissary/Assimilator. Keep the focus… Read more »
Bard, step away from the C’tan…
You’re not deleting my god slaves from me!
Katies erratic eyebrow movements says it all when nids came up
Right I’m 2/3 of the way through and if I’m honest Katy is absolutely owning this video like I’ve never seen before, I love it.
Controversial take…
Ctrl-Alt-Del…
Space Marines.
They’re overblown and boring as hell.
Damn, Katie was unleashing her inner Khorne when the topic of Tyranids came up. Absolutely hilarious to watch though!
Im at the 1.09 stage in the video. This is possibly one of the greatest bits of work you guys have done to date. I havent stopped laughing for the whole time. Thankyou. All my love
Great discussion! With regards to the Space Marines, if we’re axing icon bearers in other armies, I think the Ancient should be re-worked into an upgrade model for a squad, rather than a separate character, because aside from the OC adjustment buff, their “special thing” and wargear options are incredibly inconsistent. Like, why is it that the BLADEGUARD ANCIENT, of all the Ancients, is stuck punching people? Why can a basic Ancient take a power weapon, but not a Bladeguard Ancient? And this is made more confusing because your Company Heroes Ancient isn’t a Character model, and also doesn’t have… Read more »
What could they add to admech, you ask? MORE COOL ROBOTS!
As a sidenote, I get neither the hate for indirect fire nor old Dreadnaughts. I relay miss the impact of the first, I loved when my IW had it and it’s sad that it is no real option für IG right now (I play against them regularly). And the Dreadnaught is a beefed up Terminator in my eyes, more or less invincible in close quarters, what’s not to love (I imagine them moving like in DoW2, not like duck movement you see sometime in animations). I prefer them to new Dreadnaughts even, which are ok, but I (lore wise) see… Read more »
Even Tabletop Tactics doesn’t recognize Chaos Daemons as a faction anymore. 😉
Oh Katie I was waiting for the steam!!! hahaha!
I think one way to fix C´tan is to restrict them to only being abel to take one C´tan so they can be still powerfull but you dont end up with list that have like 3 of them.
Tempestus Scions- replace Taurox (hate it, hate it, hate it – it is an abomination) with Chimera with the some better stats to replicate the special kids getting all the best toys.
I feel so so validated with your War Walker choice, I’ve always agreed that it just does not fit with the rest of the Aeldari range. No matter how good their rules are I just can never bring myself to take them in an army. Even if they’re arguably better than Wraithlords right now, I love Wraithlords too much and they fit the walker aesthetic so much better
