both lovely looking armies, but this was a complete mismatch. the blood angels with a new codex against CSM that had a bad codex for the edition it was made for! they got absolutely slaughtered in this report but i cant tell if the blood angels were really strong or the CSM were terribly poor – combined with unlucky dice rolling! always enjoy seeing the blood angels out though, they were my original army in 2nd edition. i still have my old golden captain model which was in all the battle images in the rule/wargear books that came with the… Read more »

I would have liked to see some Sanguinary Guard rather than a second DC blob, for the cost of your 10 DC you probably could have had 9 Sanguinary Guard instead.
Remember the Ultramarines vs Thousand Sons game where Spider said he wouldn’t shoot Magnus with all the lascannons, multi-meltas etc because the game would be over and that would be boring to watch?
More of that attitude is needed in non-tactica games.
Two DC blobs was already too much, but using the re-rolling all hits and wounds strat multiple times was rubbing salt in the wound. Instantly reminded me of the somewhat recent Marines vs Tyranids game where Chapter Master was taken when the outcome was already certain.
Great game. I thought for sure Beard would bring some Hounds of the Black Legion (World Eaters) … sad panda. Still it was EPIC.

Yeah, sadly, I am going to have to echo a few that weren’t impressed by this. Okay, this isn’t a tactica, so there’ll be no min/max’ing of the CSM… but they stand no chance against a brand new army – the codex was shit in the edition it belongs in!
Videos like this remind me of the old versions of White Dwarf – the new army that comes out ALWAYS achieved a crushing victory. Bit stale.
Did Spider take over the world eaters? Lets see Blood Angels vs World Eaters… where every phase is the Kharn phase!
Well in the future, if you feel like one of these faction specific stratagems is a bit too much – why not just have a gentleman’s agreement to make it Once Per Game?
It’s Warhammer 40k afterall, the first rule of the rulebook is to have fun with your opponent. Nobody would hold it against you guys if you preferred to play silly things like that a little differently for the fun of the game. It’s not like this is a tactica.
Goodness, these CSM Bat reps are zero fun to watch. To put Chaos up again Brand new Space marines you need to tech into every possible efficiency available even to have a 10% chance of winning. The CSM list is utterly ill-equipped for this game, and the Blood Angel force was always going to whitewash it. I watched the Death company go into the possessed and turned off. Woof, that was a blowout. I think we all knew the game was likely to go that way from the beginning due to the codex imbalance, but there were some good Chaos counterpunches at least. Appreciate you guys giving us a fluffy matchup that could show off a lot of the new BA stuff regardless. Beard is a great sport 🙂 keep up the great work!

Lovely batrep, my only gripe is that I have a hard time making out the rolls on BBone’s dice.
Man poor Chaos… new edition notwithstanding, a shame to see such a scary faction reduced to something so not good. Would like to think that GW will work to get every faction at least close to parity but we will see. Just don’t know why we can’t have cool tricks too. Why not give CSM two wounds at the same time you buff the loyalist marines? Very frustrating.
You knew this game was going to end poorly (picture the knight in Indiana Jones..”He chose…poorly” of course Beard will have no clue). I have been playing a few narrative games with chaos adjusted to 2W (3W terms) and its so much better. The chaos codex needs to be here soon.
I would have never thought that beating Chaos could be like beating puppies, but now it is. And than you choose Beard to take the beating when it could have been the Spider!

Can we get a BA vs. GK Tactica? I feel like B-Bone is subtly underrated with the BA’s. Builds punchy lists and plays them really well every time he puts them on the tabletop.

That “I have eight..” in regards to his stratagems is the most defeated Beard has ever sounded.
Keep it up, they will get better. Just think of it this way: The early codices will be the worst by the end of the edition, so the longer you have to wait for new CSM, the better they will be in the long run! Probably. Hopefully. You know more about this than me anyway, so 😀
I wish I could say the Blood Angels are awesome now, but I am afraid I have to hold back until more armies are on 9th codecies. I can see the potency and synergy – do they still have access to the librarius discipline?

That’s some sort of a payback for the SW preview Battle Report, I assume… 😏 Some good ideas on what BA can do. It didn’t help that Beard put his Possessed bomb right in front of the whole enemy hammer units, but we can always hope for future improvement.
By the way, if you’re going to play with a new army against CSM, could you at least give Beard another 20% of points so things are evened out?
This was nice to watch since I’m keeping my EC shelved until they have a reasonable chance of making it past T3 vs my usual opponents (AdMech and BA).
Have you guys at TTT considered running a little round robin tournament, got so many of you playing you could run a league a little knockout tournament, all choose your fave army. Might make a chnage to see some interconnected battle reports outside of narrative reports.
Gave a like because the B and B combo is always enjoyable to watch! Dispite the battle report ending in a landslide XD. The armies looked amazing and the terrain is on point, as usual.
Christ on a crutch did this show just how f*ing pathetic the chaos marine codex is these days. There’s no two ways about it. Even Beard’s incredible optimism and energy started to fail him around the 3rd use of “vengeance for sanguinius”

Great battle report! Wasnt sure if i wanted to pick up some blood angels, but this convinced me, it will be my next crusade force. Only small complaint is that Bone’s purple dice are just hard to see. Keep up the great work guys!

CSM are just dire right now. Bone I hope you bought Beard a nice lunch, it’s the gentlemanly thing to do when screwing someone that hard.
Not sure if it highlights problems with the fact that CSM aren’t at 2W, or it just highlights Beard’s terrible dice rolling luck, but I think this game was a bit lopsided. I just don’t think the studio’s Black Legion army really pulls its weight like Beard’s Iron Warriors personal army, and that’s probably likely due to all the Forgeworld Beard has. Of course; forgetting that all Chainswords in the CSM army are now Astartes Chainswords doesn’t help (and probably did the most damage, pretty sure Mephiston was killed at least), but Bone and Beard have about a bajillion other… Read more »

These games are way, way too one sided. The first half is great with the army lists and banter, but once turn 2 hits it’s time to fast forward because it’s all a foregone conclusion.
I think until GW deigns to fix their game, you need to heavily tailor both armies. Like in this game you’d need to take the absolute worst and unsynergistic choices for Blood Angels and the absolute best for CSM.
Can’t really understand what the plan was with the possessed, there. An awful lot of points to just . . . leave in front of your army? Really feel bad for the chaos guys here though, so hugely outclassed by the marines.
I like to think that Lawrence has about 100 years worth of BWAAAH music in the editing suite at this point.

The Exalted Champion had a rumbly in his tumbly that only hands could satisfy
For the Death Company Captain you could spend 1 cp for Hero of the Chapter for the Imperium Sword Warlord trait, give them Teeth of Terra Relic. For +2S -2 D2 10A 4++ 6+++ +1wound and reroll charges. That is not including Death Visions, Assault Doctrine.
You could also do this with a Captain on a bike as well.
I also like a Flesh Tearer Terminator Captain in the Relic armour with twin lighting claws as well.
All for 20 pts and maybe a couple of cp.

I know the AP was forgotten on the CSM, but at this point CSM are just expensive cannon fodder. A sad fate for millennia old Veterans of the Long War.
It’s really aggravating to see SM get their codex AND supplements before other factions even get their base codex. GW was very swift with the indexes for them too, I see no reason why other factions shouldn’t get an index.
The disparity atm is insane.
Sad we got nerfed hard in so many places, but I can console myself watching the Bone Angels kick in some Black Legion teeth.

The thing that stood out the most to me in this batrep was how bad the CSM are at the moment… they NEED to get those 2w as soon as possible (and maybe it would not be enough), or they’ll remain a liability for chaos players. I understand that GW would not update CSM like the loyalist until they released the codex, both from a balancing and economic point of view, but at the very least they should have planned to release the new codex at the same time. Beard has a habit of putting his key units on a plate for his opponent. Need to be cagier and counter-punch if you can’t get them into charge range on your turn (Possessed). Spider – please drill this into him! 😀
