Honestly I find those shows very lackluster…you just list few things that you think are bad or good. You should call it “random thoughts on the army”. I understand that AoS is not ur cup of tea despite some books and minis in the studio but look for example at warhammer weekly and their show discussing individual factions or fixing them.
I would expect from TT (best source of wh40k on the internet) a more in depth analysis and not just a “random thought corner”. It’s not good if you do it half way.
I have to disagree about Rune Priests, I think the 3 CP strat is totally worth it. That -1 to hit bubble protecting your combat blob is a life saver. Especially against armies like Tau. I take a Rune Priest with Jump Pack pretty much every game along with a Wolf Lord and WGBL Smash Captains. And I think now more than ever (because of the Storm Shield update) Cloaked By The Storm strat combined with other strats such as Transhuman are going to be totally worth it. Especially on units such as Wulfen who relied on heavily on those… Read more »
I have a friend who plays Space wolves and he has been totally dominating the oppositon for over a month. He plays more games than anyone else I know and he still wins every time, against different competetive opponents and armies. He has won two tournaments during this time. Having been playing against him a couple of matches I don’t agree upon putting wulffen in the ugly category. With transhuman strat they are insanely resilient and they can be super quick as well with chaplain buff. They hide behind ruins and then run through the walls and even if you… Read more »
I gotta know, when are we going to hear a discussion about the 1st? We’ve heard the wolf, now where’s the lion?
Hey guys, can you buy Space Wolves units, but paint them as obsidian dragons? That way you don’t have to maintain entirely separate armies when so many units can be used by both.
I think you’re butting up against a problem inherent in how 40K is played. IGOUGO means each player can just remove units from their opponent’s army. The way Apocalypse handles this is smart; you never lose a unit without it having a chance to do *something*
I am surprised that you didn’t mention Arjac at all. For 115pts, he works out cheaper than a Battle Leader in TA with TH/SS, who works out at 130pts. That’s 15 less points for +1S, +1A, what is basically a relic TH/SS, as well as the additional aura for +1A on all Wolf Guard
I think my favorite way to run the angriest werewolves in the galaxy is to start 2 – 3 units of wulfen armed as 3 TH/SS, 1 Great Axe and 1 Leader w/ claws. 2 guys have less effective gear so they bite the bullet for their better armed friends first. I have really great success with this style paired up with Bjorn, Ragnar and a Wolf Guard Battle Leader on thunder wolf. Warlord is the Battle Leader with saga of majesty for the sweet 9 inch reroll wounds aura on his bigger base size. From there I just run… Read more »
using the cunning of the wolf stratagem is the best way to run your wulfen without having to pay for a transport in my opinion, for 1 cp its soooo worth it! being able to be in your enemy lines by turn 2 makes them rethink their deployment and can also make them not overstretch their army. if you cannot be at the other end of the board at least you are initially 9″ away from a unit when you deploy them and re-rolling charge rolls makes them something for someone to worry about rather then shooting down a flyer… Read more »
Do you guys mean Jack Plant @ the Adelaide GT? If so he did very well and came 2nd. As you basically speculated Bone, he ran 3 blobs of wulfen, Ragnar, 2 assault intercessor blobs and impulsors. The Wulfen did have ObSec though… The curveballs were incursors for the concealed position starts on objectives and 2 wolf priests to make Ragnar basically a borderline Primarch but all together a pretty solid list. Even without ObSec, Wulfen on an objective is saucy. The flip side is, Im not sure he faced Salamander successor flame aggressor spam, which as you said chef,… Read more »
I’ve played SW since they were a legal army. I have a huge collection of them. I wish I could share them with you guys for filming games and just for fun but we have a large pond between us. As to the review, I generally agree with all of it. There is at least one more bad or ugly units that need to be addressed. Wolf Scouts are frankly useless. They take up an elite slot which conforms with the fluff…and have absolutely nothing that makes them actually elite. They are fangless generic scouts that are terrible. Also terrible… Read more »
I know this is somewhat over-simplifying it but I feel like if it has ‘adeptus astartes’ in its name, it’s probably a given that its good.
I’m a little confused, can’t wulfen go in drop-pods and the wolf-riders into strategic reserves? I know the Wulfen can it least go in the flyer. Idk if I’m being overly optimistic, but I would think those options would effectively solve their delivery problems. Back them up with some longfangs and a few infantry in transports and it seems like you have an army that plays like pretty wolfy.
Thanks for that overview, gentlemen. I wholeheartedly agree with your breakdown, especially the summary of the Psyker situation with the army. Initially, I was quite pleased to read that the Rune Priest in Phobos armor can focus on either psychic discipline instead of only the Phobos one, but in the few games of 9e I’ve run them through, the choice of powers coupled with situation really doesn’t make the unit sing on the tabletop. As much as I like the Rune Priest model I have to say it won’t be making a return to my lists. One ugly aspect I… Read more »
Love the videos keep them going guys. Space wolves are my first love. The only army I have played since getting back into Warhammer on Aug. 13, 2018. Things I would add tot he lists: The Good: Arjac: For rerolls and plus 1 attack to Wolf Guard units, He is a beat stick in combat. Termis: Now hitting on 2s in shooting or combat(even with Hammers) with 1CP strat. I liked this even before we found out that they are going to 3wounds Stormfang Gunship: @240pts base and now has the 1cp strat. that gives ur Helfrost destructor: +1 hit,… Read more »
Units that are amazing and got missed are bladeguard vets, wolf Guard terminators with SS/SB, and the Judiciar! Judiciar and a wolf priest with JP/PF armour of Russ and saga of the wolfkin rolling with 2 assault units is so powerful. If you are playing with the suggested terrain and have obscuring cover you should never lose a fight. Space Wolves play the mid board mission the best in game (and deathguard).
I think what is sad/bad with psychic awakening is that there were no rules for the great companies to have special effects like the dragonslayers or blackmanes etc. what other factions get. That would have helped with said strats giving advance and charge for example but just to one specific great company. I think if you want to run them more 30k like stormwolves and wolf guard with shield and chainswords/th are a good go. Put Arjac in for +1 attack and wulfenstone + saga of the wolfkin for another character and simple wolf guard dudes pumping out 7 attacks… Read more »
i hope you guys send these faction focus videos to GW 🙂
As someone who plays, frequently, the fifth placed Space Wolf player in 8th edition, in 9th edition Space Wolves are quite good. Namely the Impulsor(Dome Shield)+6Bladeguard vets. It is a combo you should be taking every game as a Space Wolf player. Also I think it’s a Stormfang? It can get down to 200 some odd points and is just a monster for the amount of fire it puts out. Add on top of all of this the rediculously effective characters and you have a recipe for a truly nasty army. They are Space Marines at the end of the… Read more »
So, wait, was the Space Wolf army actually stolen or is there some kind of other dispute?
I have a raven guard army but have been really wanting to start a wolf army. I bought the indomitus box and haven’t painted any of those models yet. Thoughts are making them all wolves instead of raven guard?
What are your thoughts on Mr. Arjac Rockfist? I’m not a space wolf player but he seems like a beast for his points.
Great video as usual but can’t help but feel you glossed over just how good wolfguard terminators really are I’ve been running a blob of 10 combi plasma 5 with ss and 5 with chainfists and they just wreck face (have considered combi melta as i tend to kill more of them myself than the opponent lol). The amount of dakka they kick out is just gross they can bang in combat and theyre terminators so are inherently difficult to shift. And then running them with a canticles of hate jump chaplain they have a really good shot at charging… Read more »
Fairly new to playing 40k now and Space Wolves as my main army (Orks my second army) and I find it really is a question of do you want flavour or do you want to as competitive as possible. As both Chef and Bone said, you have assault intercessors, normal intercessors, aggressors the list goes on of units which do a better job. Possibly there may be some resurgence when they have first born at 2 wounds but I still think the newer units are just far stronger and really borderline OP from all the matches I watch. We have… Read more »
So, me and my roommates are fortunate enough to have a gaming table in our house, and between the 3 of us. Space Wolves are undefeated. No matter what ! do ! can’t really get past the storm shields and once the wulfen are in combat, or the thunderwolves with my admech or orks…its game over and that happens turn 1, sometimes turn 2 if I’m lucky. Like I’m struggling hard against them, I play between 3-4 games a week mainly against space wolves, and we tally up scores on turn 3 and Its always like 50+ to my like… Read more »
I think one of the main things you guys missed which is a HUGE STRENGTH for space wolves, is that all their units can heroically intervene with the strat (aswell as their characters intervening 6inches). This plays a massive part in 9th as you can’t really toe on an objective near a space wolves unit and take it off them which helps them alot in the mid board control. But everything else i pretty much agree with, i feel like any marine faction who’s super doctrine is only useful in the first turn or turn 3 onwards is just at… Read more »
I’m looking forward to your GSC one. I know already it’s going to be brutal ?
Space wolves are my main army and I agree with most of what your saying, however with the thunderwolves I think they work best as a three man squad with chainsaws and storm shields to be used a nuisance unit not as a big thunder hammer storm shield damage unit because I’ve found they are still enough of a threat that they have to be dealt with but aren’t a massive points sink.
Great chat again guys. I don’t really play competitively and find within my gaming group my wolves games are whitewashes either one way or the other, if my wulfen make combat it’s game over for my opponent, if they don’t it’s game over for me. I’m not sure how to balance such an iconic unit, maybe limit the size of the units to 3 and limit one storm shield to each unit? It’s such a difficult one to call on what to do with them. I’ve played wolves without the wulfen but then you just kind of feel like you… Read more »
