Predators, Drop Pods & Tin Foil Hats! Where are Games Workshop going with Chaos Space Marines?

The World Eaters and Death Guard Codex’s are here and surprisingly include a selection of models you’d be forgiven for thinking might be going the way of the Dodo, Predators?! Why have they been included within these tomes but removed from the all new Emperors Children? Is there an exciting plan afoot? Is it all coincidence, and does the sudden arrival of the all new Drop Pod speak to a future for the first born?

I suspect that they initially planned for other units, like perhaps the sonic dreadnought or whatever, but sort of ran out of time because they also planned to remove Chaos Daemons (or prune it) and put it into the codex. One reason or another, timetables didn’t quite line up (production issues, or whatever) and they had to make hard decisions. That’s why not all the Slaanesh daemons made the cross into the Emperor’s Children for one reason or another (Infernal Enrapturess, Contorted Epitome) and why some CSM units didn’t as well (Predators, or a proper Fast Attack choice). I mean,… Read more »

All the speculations as to why GW did this or that completely forget about the fact that they are a large company driven by decisions that first and foremost are about maximizing profit. Things that matter to fans and hobbyists will unfortunately always come second to that. No matter how much sense it doesn’t seem to make, a group of people in a boardroom somewhere signed off and approved of an EC codex without Predators.

Chaps and chap S’s,

This year is the 25th anniversary (I think!) of Codex Armageddon. Which fits with the wolves being released and the sneak peak of the salamander, the Black templars where there and also the White Scars to go with the other rumours (tin foil hat applied!).

Just saying

Wholeheartedly agree with Bard’s controversial take on Codex Marines. My Salamanders have suffered all through 10th for the sins of what other chapters can do (my poor flame Aggressors in particular), and would love to have the chapters demarcated in what they use. Going by older rules, I’d lose access to jump pack infantry, outriders and storm speeders, but that’s fine if my eradicators, aggressors and infernus can be supercharged, while White Scars take all the things I can’t and make them awesome instead!

I had some people sent over by my letting agents today to do a gas check, my front door has two locks on it, came home to find that they’d used the lock I’d never used before. Turns out I was never given a key for it so just had to get a locksmith around drilling out my front door lol. I left the house at 6:30 this morning, finally able to relax and watch some Tabletop Tactics awesomeness at 9pm.

Maybe GW didn’t want a unit with children and predator in the name as part of the god of lust / excess faction, to prevent any misconceptions that could scare people away ?

Could it be that GW just didn’t want a unit with children and predator in the name, especially in the lustful / excess faction just so that people less familiar with the game wouldn’t risk intentionally or not apint a bad picture ?

Totally down for a true scale rhino. It would be about the size of the landraider but taller. And the lander raider would be about the size of the landraider but also taller.

Love the video. Great fun as always 😀
Two things though…
First: This whole year of Chaos obsession isn’t a thing. GW mentioned it a couple of times related to AoS and the Internet has run with it on their own. Kirioth made an excellent video on it recently.
Second: I hope Chef is ok

I do find it hilarious that people are moaning on the internet regarding releasing new models,, just appreciate it when it comes, it’s really not that deep 😂

I’d like to think the reason the Forgefiend didn’t get in but the Maulerfiend did is that there is a new sonic daemon engine on the way. (please GW)

Maybe I’m the problem here, but the imbedded vid is just a character string with no actual clickable video.

Hoping Gee-Dub do a update like they did with the Deathwatch and add the units back into the codex, still find it strange that EC didn’t get any form of Cultists/cannonfodder like the other Chaos books

Also, why don’t the EC have helbrutes? Every chaos legion SHOULD have a dreadnought-adjacent unit.

Hell, i’ve recently read the Deathwatch Ignition anthology and in one of the stories there was a Emperor’s Children dreadnought that put a meat grinder-like thing on his chassis so that he could gorge himself on food even in death (Slaneesh is excess in all things, after all)

Yeah, as a death guard player with predators custom built and painted, I would have been mad to not have them in the codex

I can’t help but think, if i am trying to justify the removal from emperor’s children, but not from world eaters and death guard could be that they haven’t technically taken them out; as emperor’s children haven’t been an army (sorry Lawrence). Given world eaters have been around a couple years; and death guard almost a decade (?) there’s more liklihood that they would be invalidating units that people have already (theoretically) built and painted. But i personally believe they originally wanted to drip tease Emperor’s Children like they did The Old World, but then rushed it out. I think… Read more »

What if the drop pod could come down anywhere and level a piece of scenery becoming the Los style scenery itself? Be an interesting mechanic turn 1 to remove and replace a price of scenery to your liking! What do you guys think?

What I really want (and I hope/pray this happens) is that they extend the release cycle for 40k (please GW please!). It would just be better. Releases can be more spread out, the rules team/designers can have more time to work on new units/codeless and it would also mean that if they run into any production issues they have plenty of time to work with in regard to rescheduling. I think 3 – 4 ish years to get all the codexes out and then at least a year of just cool narrative stuff and/or campaigns. This would mean there are… Read more »

The doors arent a big deal and neither is the predator.. in your battle reps you never use a pod and rarely rarely use the predator.

Imo, EC release was missing 2 additional units to make it from good to great. another character type that changes the utility of the infantry, like a apothecary turned flesh surgeon that made a unit durable. And a vehicle with sonic technology; sonic walkeresq perhaps. i also think the flawless blades shouldn’t have been demon related but marines who went through surgery to become “more perfect”; that would fit into their lore better.

Theirs a short piece of codex fluff somewhere… I think it’s the 9th ed space marines codex when it was describing marine chapters existence being poorly recorded… That tell a story… A forge world with privilege of creating a Predator tank for a space marines chapter every year, carries on producing them years after the chapter was wiped out, no one collected them, they simply built them and stored them in a secure facility, so secure, that even when the forge world fell to the Deathguard, they failed to find the bunker, where over 3000 preditor tanks sat idle…. Guess… Read more »

I think they just want people to buy the new models….rather than just buy a few units and fulgrim then use their already established chaos army…

Bring back force organisational charts and make them faction specific!!

Paul Ancill

I have an idea for how to rework the app. At the start of every edition, all faction has an index released just like the start of 10th. These indexes are available for free, for the entirety of the edition. When a codex is released, the relevant factions index is no longer updated but remains available (for free) until you input a codex code, unlocking the new rules and preventing you from reverting back to the index. This way players are not forced to buy an expensive book if they do not wish to or are unable to do so… Read more »

Looking forward to watching this in a bit, but first a bit of a housekeeping question: If I want to go back to one of these big format discussion videos that you’ve been putting out in the last month or so (because I always appreciate your take on things)… where are they filed? What is this type of content even called? It’s not Podcast, Backstage, Specials, State of Play or anything else as far as I can see. Do we just scroll back through the “latest” timeline? Or (and this is always a big possibility I admit), am I being… Read more »

Maybe ( tin foil hat in place) staff in the team at GW headquarters have certain units their own collections and put the units in so they themselves can use them.

The whole “year of chaos” was in reference to Skaven joining chaos in AoS last year. The community ran with it and interpreted it as chaos in 40K this year. And now everyone is whining.

There’s no “year of chaos” guys, it’s just the usual GW way of selling more stuff with hype and FOMO. The sooner people learns this, the better imho

As an emperors children fan it did genuinely annoy me to see that they have done this, ec in general just feels like half a codex with not a lot to assist with high toughness units , my only way I could see them justifying this is if they’re holding on a ec wave 2 next edition which is all their own vehicles and they just rushed this release for this year for the “year of chaos”
