Maybe a silly question, but I have seen others play this way. Blood angels have a named character for both chief apothecary and chief librarian. So im assuming I cannot take a sanguinary priest and give him the chief apothecary upgrade nor make a normal librarian a chief librarian.

You guys should have loosened the chain a bit so Sanga could have seen what his army can do in this edition.

I like your Vox Espiritum idea but that is a Primaris only relic so can’t be given to a Sanguinary Priest. I’d say a Sanguinary Priest is worth it over Corbulo as they can get a jumppack. And with the Teeth of Terra they are absolutely terrifying. Concerning the Sanguinary Guard, swords are the best option now having +1S and +1 to wound you’ll wound most things on 2s, some on 3s. The axes are nice versus T5. Powerfists are a waste of points now. The nice thing of the Descent of Angels stratagem is that it gives +1 to… Read more »

an insightful review guys. every special character is totally underwhelming. i never see them do anything that a standard captain/librarian/lieutenant/chaplain/apothecary cant just do in a similar and just as useful way. i have played blood angels since 2nd edition when special characters were absolutely monsters, and i actually would like to see a return to this. dante is 1000 years old! the experience, knowledge, skill, tactics and equipment he would have gathered over that time is just not reflected. I have a baal but all they needed to do was make its weapons Assault – thats it. dont even think… Read more »

Dante is underwhelming, the Lord Regent of the Imperium Nihilus supposedly, and he is just underwhelming…a fail rules-wise and narratively imo….Just build your own better character with the Supplement and Codex…other than a name what makes Dante ‘Special’?! Where is his new model GW?! FAIL! Mephiston is underwhelming, the Lord of Death – the one who has conquered the flaw and was reborn, and he is also just underwhelming…Just build either a combat character as above or take a normal Librarian or Phobos with the Chief Librarian upgrade for a Psyker… Tycho: Why is he still here GW? A waste… Read more »

I usually use Mephiston very aggressively; Quickening/WoS (Red rampage in the past), and he usually wrecks in melee. If I want a more buffing psycher, I take a librarian dreadnought.

Can we all just appreciate Bone’s beautiful jawline for a moment? He’s like a 40k playing aussie Johnny Depp these days!

I’m going to use Dante with 10 company veterans with storm shields, purely for the body guard trait and the fact that they are pretty cheap. Also, you can get a unit that doesn’t take a slot if you have a captain. It sounds good in my head… any thoughts? I’ve only just started playing.

Hey lads, great review, enjoyed it. And god damn it Bone, you look thinner ! Kudos on your workout, keep it up ! 😀 Back on topic : What if I told you that Savage Echoes does not proc through the use of the Blood Chalice or Adaptive Strategy before turn 3 ? Would you believe it ? Yet, here we stand Rule-As-Written. The issue does exist with the Space Wolves super doctrine also. Are they limiting when the super doctrine for SM can be active willingly ? I wish there was consistency in GW rules writing… the SW wording… Read more »

It says add 6 to the move characteristic INSTEAD of advancing, so I think the Baal Predator could indeed shoot?

The changes and large number of small nerfs to various unique blood angels units/abilities is a bit of a kick in the shin in aggregate, even if the overall reduction in power is totally fine with the other changes in the supplement and perfectly in line with what we have seen with other codices. The book is still great from what I’ve seen so far, and BA are still very powerful, no doubt, but it feels like we lost a little bit of our uniqueness. Seems like a similar thing happened with Space Wolves last month, but I’m looking forward… Read more »

Thanks for this overview. Even if it wasn´t in-depth it felt a bit more interesting than the somewhat lack-luster info you gave in the previous batrep.. didn´t feel any love there. Now I´m off to the 2nd batrep, gotta like that..

Something was off in this video. And then, after 25 minutes of video I figured it out. Bone’s moustache is gone!

I’ve not shared your hesitation towards Mephiston, even in games where he hasn’t truly powered up, his potential still makes my opponents move very cagily which works to our advantage when playing the objective. Then when the opening presents itself, using wings of sanguinius he can become a pinpoint assassin, and I will use him sacrificially if he can take a key target. This maybe more difficult with the red rampage change however, but the stratagem that allows him to use an extra psychic power could well combat this to get off a targeted smite following a wings of sanguinius… Read more »

I don’t get GW’s thought process sometimes. The Baal pred is one that I could never wrap my head around. You guys are not missing anything, it advances and you can’t shoot it’s a waste of ink on the page! I understand that the 3d6 charge stratagem was taken out for a good reason it was way to good! But to keep things like overcharged engines which was never used at all I feel is a little sloppy. But having looked through the book it is so far one of my favourite books, so much fluff combined with good utility… Read more »

As a primarily Blood Angels player I agree with everything you’ve said.
I’m looking forward to trying out the Sanguinors new rules!

How I’ve been running my Blood Angels pre lockdown somewhat competitively;

Indomitus Captain
Chief apoc Sanguinary Priest
Primaris chaplain on Bike (THIS GUY, wow!)

30 assault intercessors

5 Bladeguard vets
Bladeguard ancient
5 Death company w/jump packs

6 outriders
ATV with MM

6 Eradicators

Impulsor with shield

Ancient and vets in the impulsor and then yeet them up the board 🙂

Really enjoying the app, especially the fact you can lock your phone and keep playing these. Has a podcast feel to it which is great when working.
