*NEW CODEX* Drukhari: The Good, Bad & Ugly | Warhammer 40,000 Faction Focus
After many Warp-travel induced mishaps, the Dark Kin finally land in the Studio ready for a Good, Bad and Ugly sit down!
*ATTENTION- Whilst Spider would have loved to have done this video he is on Paternity Leave, so I’m sure you’ll all understand he is busy with far more important things- his own Trueborn! Chef and Spider have had many discussions about this book, both during and post Playtesting, so much of what Chef says here echoes Spider’s thoughts. Rest assured Spider will be revisiting the Codex for Battle Reports, List Analyses and follow up Reviews as soon as he can!*

Guys, we keep hearing ‘you can’t compare 8th edition codexes to 9th edition’ from you and others. The problem with ‘just wait, good things are coming’ is that their release schedule is glacial. With 20+ armies, one or two codexes a month just doesn’t cut it. You can only compare what you have to what the current meta/best is. If your codex is 2 years old, you’re screwed. Telling people ‘it will get better’ isn’t helpful. Fans and content creators need to start telling GW enough is enough. 1.5 to 2 years into an edition is too damn long to… Read more Β»
The Drukhari codex is just a reminder of how truly awesome and how much variety of gameplay the Necron codex could of had instead of having like 5 units that are always include and the rest gather dust.
Kudos to the dark eldar players though, having played since 2nd edition itβs nice to see them finally get an awesome codex that keeps the flavor of their faction intact while also giving them a variety of ways to play.
Maybe one day the Necrons will finally get a codex this welll written.
Congratulations to the Spider Kabal!
Congrats Lawrence and family!
My best friend has started to build a drukari army and our playgroup is terrified!
Congratulations and all the best to Lawrence and his family!
All the best to Mrs & Mr & Baby Spider!
Please tell me Lawrence named his child Benjamin after Benjamin Bonar. If his new born is a son it works perfectly and if its a daughter it works well, too.
TTT – “Your patience has been rewarded!!”
Me – “Finally a Ynnari Codex?”
TTT – “Nah, just another army that already had an 8th Ed. book”
Me . ;(
Congratulations Lawrence! Take good care of your wife and little one!
Congrats Lawrence (and the Mrs of course!!! Very exciting times!
Great review Beard + Chef! I’ve been a bit checked out on 40k since I haven’t been able to play at all in the past year, but watching this review definitely got the wheels turning again.
Amazing news Spider! Too your growing family, huge congratulations! All I can say is, if you were busy before, wow this is going to be another level. I hope you and Mrs Spider enjoy every minute though. They go from Nappy Dreadnought to Wych-cult in no time π€£!!
All the best to Mr & Mrs Spider!
A friend got the Drukhari book yesterday and is ecstatically happy with it!
Congratulations Spider! As a future dad I will be looking for tips on how to work full time play my hobbies and be a parent at the same time π
Oh and this book is fantastic, great review guys
Congratulations Spider w/family!
I have finally finished watching your saturday drop video, reading enough of the new codex and writing a list. I think you will be surprised what you can fit. Now this is not an optimised list, but it has teeth – feel free, when anyone has time, to let me know what you think.l, also feel free to double check it is 2k exactly. Real space raid. Alliance of agony Label black heart Cult of strife Prophets of the flesh Kabal units Splintered Genius Archon, warlord, Labyrinthine Cunning, huskblade, splinter pistol Trueborn – 10. 2x Blasters 1x Splinter Cannon. Let me offer my own congrats to Spider for his own Trueborn. Hope that the babe and Mrs. Spider are doing well. Enjoy all the time with your family!
Clip show commentating Spider makes everything better.
Congratulations to the Spider! Hope the new true born and her mother are well!
Beard and Chef – absolute belter of a video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Still waiting on my codex being delivered but glad to see hellions becoming a unit that matches the lore for them! But where am I?????
Congrats on the Spiderling, Spider! And good luck to the rest of you, getting along without your whip-cracking overlord π I will say that in this review I missed some of the specifics about units; a lot of things especially in the good section were simply “they’re so good now!”… How? You said we can make really nasty combat characters, but no details on how they’re nasty. Can they take a Captain? You mentioned that hellions are really good now. How? You teased me by saying they can get to S5, but… How? You mention new PfP, but don’t go… Read more Β»
Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Spider π
Congratulations Lawrence and family. Amazing news π
Congrats to daddy Spider!! Welcome to the club! It’s awesome isn’t it? ^_^
Congrats on the baby π· πΈ
Congratulations, Spider-Clan! May the new Trueborn inspire new emotions in the Spider’s bleak heart.
Honestly. I agree, that I am having to really hunt for the bad. It’s done a great job at making me want to play, a wych army, a combined army, a kabal or coven. How many armies are there where you could be given an army made of anything from that book and be really excited to play? And congrats to the spider
For those that have accused me of being too negative at times about army balance allow me to say this: this is the best codex in 9th edition and should be in the Hall of Fame for all army books/codexes. I have played Dark Eldar/Drukhari since they were a legal army many years ago. The only time they were really good on the table was after the 8th edition codex but it still had flaws in it. This codex answers almost every question and concern Drukhari players have had for years. There are no bad units in the codex. None.… Read more Β»
Cults and covens and kabals, oh my!
The void bomb is gonna be nasty to castle armies for sue, it’s always fun to see an army get a good book.
Awesome review guys, I plan on commenting more when i get the codex tomorrow at release. I hope you can answer this but did you guy play test everything before 9th for 9th? Or do they let you play test everything as they work on them? I’ve got my fingers crossed for thousand sons/daemons being a solid dex and that the pattern holds!
The Dark Eldar have always been a finesse army. My best friend told me they were glass cannons, I told him they’re more like glass stiletto’s, you put them in the right place and they’ll penetrate straight to the heart. Mess up the strike even a little and it shatters.
Cheers for the video. It’s great to hear the internal balance is solid. The cross-codex balance is still garbage however and this codex will further increase the gap between old vs new books.
Congrats to the Spider, may his spawn have the same crazy luck!
I would not be too worried. In my opinion, even 8th edition armies are still fine, as long as you understand the armor pen/high strength weapons/units of your army. Build your army around the anti armor weapons you want to use, but remember there are probably a few bad anti tank options. Especially now that death guard/dreadnaught -1 damage is a thing.
So voidravens are really good but you want to take void lances not dark scythes because void lances are amazing.
And you really want to take dark lances but you really want like 15 to 20 dark lances. Unless your playing Bone’s Death Guard in which you take 33 dark lances.
Congrats to Mrs Spider and papa Spider. May their true born ransack galaxies and never taste defeat.
Glad to hear the book is really good! I have a feeling Iβll be playing a lot against them soon. Itβs okay though because the Black Templars will show no pity, no remorse, and no fear.
As a Drukhari player I’m very happy with the new codex. One of the saddest things before was charging in my 5 wyches, killing maybe 1 space marine, losing 3 in return and then losing the rest of them to pistol fire on their turn. Now that is very much flipped and I think they finally do as they should. I think you can pretty much extrapolate that to the entire roster. This isn’t really a bad but if you wanted to critique it, relic pistols are really common in the codex and they were sort of just ported from… Read more Β»
The only thing I’m disappointed about the book is that they’ve left the good ol’ beastmaster and their beasts in the dumpster still. Other than that this book is probably my fav DE book there has been.
Congrats to Lawrence and baba. My little one was a year old a couple of weeks ago and Iβm already having to move my models to less easy to reach places for her!
I would like to add my sincerest congratulations to Spider and the real boss of the day, his wife. I really hope you enjoy the new addition to you family, well deserved. Mind if I ask if you had a boy or girl? As for Drukhari, my codex should be here tomorrow and I am going to be having a good bath and read. I personally have seen several reviews and think that nothing is really bad, but a lot is situational. I look forward to seeing what Lawrence brings to the table when he is back from a long… Read more Β»
Congratulations to the Spider family! Hope all are well and healthy!
The Review was very interesting to watch, thank you Beard and Chef for the show!
Congratulations Spider enjoy the paternity time with the little one and your wife. Take lots of pictures it goes by fast!
Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Spider for welcoming a new Spiderling into the world! What a wild year for the Tabletop Tactics team.
The cherry on top of this re-jigging of the mechanics of Drukhari is that the Combat Patrol box that came out with it is also quite nice. Good to hear Crusade is great as well. To my mind it’s by far the best way to play 40k.
Congratulations π· Bet that child is rolling 6’s already
As I know next to nothing about Drukhari beside the list Lawrence uses, having played against them only 3 or 4 time in 8th, I can’t really comment about their rules. I’m just happy that 9th is mostly shaping up well, I’m having much more fun then in the last edition.
Firstly, warmest congratulations to Laurence and his family!
I’m really enjoying editing on your videos as it’s getting more refined and really adds to the comedic value.
Congrats Spider and Mrs. Spider! And Itsy-Bitsy Spider! Many happy returns!
makes me sad that i had to sell my drukhari due to covid and well you know that little thing called rent as they now seem to match the builds and fluff I had for my cabal. also congratulations to Laurence and mrs Baker welcome to parenthood enjoy your time off and look forward to seeing a tweaked spider upon your return.
Can not wait to get hold of this book my dark eldar have been sat on a shelf for far to long π
P.s – Many congratulations to Mr and Mrs spider π·πΆπ»πΌπ΄π΄π΄π΄π΄
