Chef, I need to call upon the power of your mind… how does the templars strat ‘Deadly Cargo’ interact with the Nachmund update regarding rare rules page 363 update. I’ve been lead to believe we can still charge after using it and the templar community seemingly agree too, but an opponent said his salamanders were directly nerfed due to the change, plus says we will not be allowed to charge in the same manner either? could you help clarify please. Cheers team, Hope to see a cheeky templar vs the scary stuff when you have opportunity. Keep up the fantastic… Read more »

I like the spin on the Imperial Knights Oaths with the Vows. Knights and Crusaders are not far off conceptually, and so are Oaths and Vows. Nice touch !

I had to pause at 12:12 and record the following 5 seconds. I’m going to show that to my opponents every time me forces do something really good. “Uuuuuuh baby! Ouh baby.”

I think the book is pretty good, the WL traits are underwhelming and the Secondaries are rubbish but some of the Relics and Relic Bearers are nice as are some of the strats. The Litanies are really good. Devout Push is still really good. The one thing the book is sorely missing is advance + charge

I think the Vow for 5++ actually does still let you get dense cover, just not light/heavy. If so vehicles/bikes don’t care at all about the downside. It’s in the FAQ on Obscuring/Dense and benefits of cover, a model doesn’t need to be receiving the benefits of cover for the -1 to hit to apply to the firing unit.

Really fluffy and cool Codex supplement that does not seem OP, but a step up. Feel sorry for the BA players though, GW tossed more salt!

Nice review, may I ask what the plan is for the Templar models. Obsidian Dragons?

Awesome review, guys! I’m so psyched to try them out with their new rules. I think, though, that Chef was a bit harsh on my main man Grimaldus. I know that having the servitors be Characters will max out Assassinate right away. However, this opens the door to some shenanigans. Firstly, Grimaldus technically has 8 wounds (his 5 plus the 3 servitors) and the servitors can also tank high damage attacks. Lascannon to the face? One servitor dies. Further, if there is an Apothecary nearby, those same servitors can be brought back to life; making Grimaldus a very tough character… Read more »

Great video, awesome to see the excitement. I’ve not played really Templars since I think 3rd (pre Emperor bothering) and the new release actually has me excited so much so I’ve ordered the box.

The only thing I dislike about this new Codex is that High Marshal Helbrecht makes the oldest space marine in existence Dante, Lord Regent of the Imperium Nihilus, Lord of the Angels look like a b****. In all seriousness, why is Dante so tame. Doesn’t crack STR 8 with his Axe. Doesn’t have an alternative attack mode with said axe, not to mention it’s only damage 2. His warlord trait is rubbish (specially compared to Gift of Foresight.) But hey don’t worry, I get a singular CP if I make him my warlord due to running half the Imperium. This… Read more »

I have waited for this for so damn long. Played back in 4th using the boys in black, then stopped. Got back into the scene through you guys and in Templar fashion made a vow not to play until they got another release (or I finally amassed enough conversions and greenstuff shenanigans to field an army)
THE TIME HAS COME! Very excited for Helbrecht! Very excited for Sword Brothers! Awesome coverage and sneak peak guys, can’t wait to get my order through! Looking forward to seeing how you guys roll them out!

Are there enough chainswords on the primaris crusader sprues to outfit everyone for melee? I just don’t see myself running them if I have to mix ranged and melee.

LOVE the artwork, I started in 3rd edition also, but I was a bit older than Chef at the time :). I love the knight idea and the only reason I didn’t pick them or wolves was I had just finished painting 36 plus black Battlemechs for Wolfs dragoons and wanted a change of pace. So I picked Imperial Fists, damn yellow paint lol. Who knew that IF would get one codex in 23 years lol. I think this book sounds super flavorful and I’m sorta glad its not meta breaking and seemingly OP out of the gate. Maybe GW… Read more »

So happy to see these, look like it’s gonna be a fun time. I have to ask though will they start to appear more regularly on the channel now that they have a supplement? 🙂

I think the word you were missing instead of “sponson” was “pintle.”

So, a neophyte can throw down smoke grenades UNLESS he is Primaris – in that case, he newer learned about smoke grenades?! 😀
(I know it is probably on purpose for fairness sake; a -1 to hit AND transhuman would be a bit too much – but a bit funny to imagine a firstborn neohyte walking along with a box of smoke grenades. Gets stopped by a Primaris neophyte, asking him what those weird grenades are for 😀 )

The Templars look very interesting. I hope that this is the direction they will bring also the other chapters, with more equipment choices and varied composition for the primaris squads.

I am giddy with excitement for this release. I’ve struggled to find my heart playing and painting Space Wolves and Raven Guard, but The Emperor has shown the way!

So, the Sword Brethren – arguably the most iconic Black Templars unit after the Emperors champion – are a…. weird one..
The firstborn version can have whatever weapons he want (like a power fist). They can’t (as far as I’ve seen at least) have shields, and have fewer wounds than bladeguards. Also not affected by the Ancient.
Sure, they are not affected by Passion (and can potentially be affected by 2 vows), but are they better than Bladeguards?

I’m so happy that the Templars are getting some love – and the holy hand grenade exists! Thanks for the review guys.

Question: do they still have a reroll charge rolls and 5+ FNP against MW, or has that been rolled into the vows and whatnot, or did you talk about it and I missed it!?
