Ok hammerhead aside i like what they have done. I still think that some units are a little too fragile in a game where tanking hits to hold objectives could be a bit of an issue but ill reserve judgement till after ive played some games. Shame the steal teams and ghostkeel can’t take shield gens anymore. On the subject of the hammerheads….i mean i never use them and its rail gun being actually good for an edition isn’t going to change that cause i like my suits too much.

I’m a new tau player and I’m a little confused with the marker lights, if I have a marker drone with a strike team can the drone perform the marker light action, the strike team move and the action still completed?

These newer books are really getting out of hand. I think this is a prime example as to why people have a very sour taste for 40K atm.

well I am super glad this came out after the LVO. I managed to go 3-3 with my Imp Knights in my first LVO and I would have been tabled by turn 2 against this book since we would get no invuln, no armor, and we dont get obscuring so can be almost always seen from anywhere on the board (with the Knights not the armigers of course). Its these types of rules that crush the fun of the game and like you said Chef their alpha potential is silly. Railgun aside this could potentially turn into a ‘leafblower’ book… Read more »

What if the Hammerhead’s anti-invuln just didn’t work against units with the titanic keyword?

Okay… 17 Minutes in the Video and I just ordered the codex 😀 Time to reactivate my Third Expansion army. Tau where my first army, when I started 40k, 14 years ago. Now I’m feeling old😥

What I saw in your game against James’ White Scars, let’s me hope to play Tau as I always wished them to use them on the table.

I’m excited for the New tau codex and I’ll going to play Farsight enclaves just because I’ll like the lore and they like rebel tau lol 😂 I’ll rate the broadsides to be honest as they get core and can benefits I’ll think for me personally it be devilfish, breachers, crisis suits and broadsides is my idea I’ll think they be better then the hammerhead tank I’ll think few Tay players will go down the wrong root with hammerheads in my opinion 🙂 Ty I’ll really enjoy your guys input CAnt wait to see codex on Saturday 🙂

I think you’re correct that hammerheads will gatekeep I play two armies – chaos knights and deathguard. DG took a points hit in the infantry (why?), so I’ve been going back to more daemon engine lists. Now I’m looking at reliably losing 3 daemon engines per turn, no save, -1 damage irrelevant. Hammerheads straight up remove that army from relevance competitively. Infantry DG can’t revive with plague surgeon (making him utterly useless compared to 2 more blightlords, which also got more expensive… somehow…) so that’s looking bad. Slow against a good shooting army is gonna suck. And then Chaos knights.… Read more »

Would love to see a deep dive into the interaction between Mont’ka and Actions as it’s already a point of contention locally.

Bor’Kan Ghostkeels w/ Montka & Fusion are gonna be awesome!

Thanks for the great review guys. Did a lot to put things in perspective for me, which is why I always enjoy your factions reviews.
As an Imperial Knight player myself, I do have to wonder @The Chef what you think WG will do to give them survivability against the Tau Hammerhead and/or Bork’an Sept lists (if you can even say). I’m just at a loss, and I’m tired of all the anti-anti invulnerable tongue-in-cheek comments floating around.

Hi Chef! Tau player here. Thanks for the review and the effort put into the tactical doc as well. I´d just like to point out I disagree with you on the kroot part. I think we will see a lot of lists playing 10-20 kroot. The shaper not taking a slot and giving them rerolls and leadership buff for 25 points is pretty nice. You can also give them a +1 to wound with an ethereal, which can be scary with a 6 inch heroic intervention. Plus their scout move and a 7 inch movement characteristic, with obsec, for 6… Read more »

Thanks for the review fellas. Tau are my only 40k army, and it only took a handful of games in 9th edition to say “naw, I’ll just play AoS while I wait for the new codex”. So it has been a long while since I’ve played, and if I’m being honest, also quite some time since I’ve watched your content with any regularity. Kept up my sub though, just because I love the lot of ya. I look forward to learning who the new faces are, and hopefully mending the wound in my heart left by the absence of another.… Read more »

Chef stop being negative about kroot! Yes they are old but in this edition they have potential. Hunting packs pre game move Dal’yth giving them Mont’ka to advance and fire and an extra pip of AP within the given the range actually makes them a threat. That and for one troops slot and the equivelant in points of a breacher team and its devilfish transport (170pts) you get 12 kroot carnivores firing bolters in the tactical doctrine, 4 kroot hounds for movement blocking and 3 kroot ox riders who are essentially packing autocannons. Thats certainly potential and you can add… Read more »

Quick question for Chef: I think introducing ranged weapons that ignore invulnerable saves may lead to us seeing some sort of nonsense of unignorable invulnerable saves or something silly. Do you think we will see something like that? perhaps not if its only tau getting ranged anti-invuln weapons. As someone who just started gathering a knight army ranged anti-invuln does sound scary, but I personally will probably never face Tau amongst my friends. I have a feeling that when knights get their codex and people will be losing their minds because their weapons are going to look as good as… Read more »

Thing about Hammerheads is that one of the biggest thing they counter is other hammerheads

Interested to hear further why you think kroot don’t deserve their space in the codex Chef? As a tau player with both mainstream and kroot elements I’m stoked about their increased content and the opportunity to use the different elements separately and in combination.

Lolz….when chef said “attacked by mortarion”. Like any multi wound model like that will live past turn one…

Obligatory whinge from Necron player about the before game special rule nonsense… 🤨

…but seriously – really happy that Tau are getting their stuff together, happy that marker lights are sensible and looking forward to denying a Rail Gun wound roll with Quantun Shielding!

Good vid as every guys – thank you!
