I appreciate you, Chef. Always enjoy your take on things.

It feels as though someone at GW really wants to just bring back rules for allies, but the management don’t want to risk anyone actually having fun.

This is exactly what I wanted! Been playing the cult for 2 years and got a 1250 pts of vanguard tyranids last fall. Can’t wait to try it out!

This detachment has got some decent rules, HOWEVER, there are at least three big issues I can immediately see. For one, it feels like a nid detachment not a cult detachment. My second issue is that cults have so many issues right now and they haven’t bothered to fix any of them. They just souped in another army to carry the poor cultists. Third issue is the multiple books thing. Ive seen some people say “its not difficult to avoid buying the extra codex” but thats not the point. The player shouldnt have to be making the effort to get… Read more »

Unless I have missed something; Synapse is a Tyranid Faction rule, meaning it doesn’t apply here.
This means the bulk of what you can take is LD8+, so now you have ~1000 points of models that are more-likely-than-not (even before any modifiers) to fail a battle-shock test. People think it’s a bit of a nothing rule; I imagine that changes when it’s around half your army.

i like the look of this detatchment, but I’ve only just picked up my first nid models this month.
I like the concept of the soup detachment, and was even hoping for one of my own for Grotmas, Disciples of Be’lakor when?.. please. I don’t know how much of this is because i picked the game up in 8th, where the book-keeping was already multi-book and haven’t really known any different though..

This is completely on me, but I was so confused when originally seeing the videos about this on YouTube because for too long a moment I thought it meant this was the final release, which then made trying to figure out that isn’t there still other missing detachments. By the way, it’s been so overwhelming that I am kind of missing which detachments are still missing. I think the Wolves, World Eaters and Sisters, but there are tons which I realize I am forgetting here. EDIT: And of course the instant I put this message out I remember that they… Read more »

Chef’s face on the video thumbnail kind of sums it up nicely 🙂

One of the weird perks for this is (apparently, I’ve never experienced this) counterplay for GSC is leaving a couple models left alive in a unit so they can’t be recycled (IE: sad alone aberrant who wan’t come back with his buddies). In this detachment you can just eat them with a damaged nid to force recycle them and deep strike again.
Super strong Strats, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing something with a lower skill floor for an already high skill army.

I’m not a nids or a cults player, so take this with a grain of salt but i really like this detachment because it feels super fluffy and fun! Though it does kind of read like it should have been a nids detachment that could take cultists, rather than a cultist detachment that could take nids… if that distinction makes sense?

Feeling this cynical amalgamation inevitably crawl towards us all month has been sad. Aside from the obvious mechanics issue, we still have so many units, especially characters, that don’t really have an effective way of running efficiently, now they just released rules for a completely different faction models instead. *sighs*

I’m already a big fan of this as I have both armies.
My only issue is that they’re painted in very different colour schemes and base styles so now I’m considering getting desert Lictors/Trygons…

We are getting 20+ free detachments – that’s the time to do these split forces. The alternative would be to buy a codex with such detachments in there and probably still end up having to buy a second codex to run them… or just be a divergent chapter and have to buy 2 books anyhow

Also its pretty easy to circumvent having to buy these codices… just grab the index for the unit profiles and check the changes online.

Personally I really love this detachment because it looks like a lot of fun to play. I love the Tyranids Vanguard units and this will make for a fun narrative list 😁

I play GSC and Drukhari, and don’t have any harlequinz or nids.. I feel like they want me to spend more money before christmas… I don’t like it
