It’s an Astartes-off in this latest Tactica, but can Spider make the once feared Grey Knights work again in 9th, or will Bone and the reliable Space Marines stop his efforts?

Im curious what Lawrence thinks about Erik Lathouras’ Grey Knights list for the LVNO. Too few wounds to be viable, or crazy like a fox?

“If I meet Cawl, I’ll kick him in the head” – this genuinely made me laugh out loud at my desk at work. Bravo Lawrence, bravo.

I can’t watch very often right now but i really appreciate all the work you guys put into these videos!
Also I thought bone had this one when he said new dice. But the spider luck was strong in this game haha.

I’m going to disagree with Lawrence on his choice of secondaries, because obviously that’s smart. I’d have taken a psychic secondary like mental interrogation or psychic ritual because you have so many characters who can do it and you give up little in the way of smites. I’m leaning away from Draigo because Voldus has a similar weapon, gets more mind bullets, and they have the same invulnerable save now.
The suppressors surprised me. I’ve got a set siting in the back of a box somewhere. I play Fists and I think they’re going to be an addition.

Feels like the Suppressor benefits a bit more as Iron Hands, I get the extra damage on vehicles but having the moment from turn one with Iron Hands super doctrine and re-rolling ones seems a fair trade off to get more coverage on the board. I am by far now expert just some initial thoughts.

Hang on a second. Three intercessors charged and got to attack with 10 attacks?!?! Space marines are broken, that is mental. Every unit of theirs is good at everything

Gerald Cloud

Wait, but with the last turn, if bone wipes the termies, his inceptors could target the characters turn 5? Couldn’t he have also screened his captain with the inceptors and intercessors with their consolidation move? I’m just saying it could be a lot closer if it was played out.

Love this batrep, and your grey knights Lawrence. I can’t wait to see the discussion on competition lists. I was wondering with the new points costs have you abandoned the double paladin bomb? I see that it is still possible with dropping 1 strike squad and 1 character. Also I like the interceptor unit but they just die as soon as they are looked at. Would tide of shadows be of any assistance with that?

Anyway love the content guys thanks

Lawrence, I am so glad that GK list worked. I’ve been looking for a(n almost) pure terminator army and might have to explore acquiring this one.

Good report guys. Mission really suited the GK, being able to move off objectives is huge.
Spider seemed really jaded in this one. Hopefully burn out isnt an issue. Really appreciate what you guys do.

Aw Bone, I really thought it was going to be your day today. I’m not sure about the Suppressors either. They’re really cool and I like their guns, and you kinda think that they’re gonna speed about the place doing great shooty things *blamblamblam*, but actually they’re just 6 easily removed wounds, and that crafty Mr Spider had you pretty savagely hemmed in. Whatever, I’m no expert, but I thought you played really well and I really enjoyed watching you as always. Lawrence, that was disgustingly good. I don’t know how you mentally engage with the game so fully – a… Read more »

Good game guys. The list was great B-Bone, but your target priority wasn’t good the first turn. I would’ve completely ignored the Paladins with the -1 to wound and destroyed the GK Inceptors and as many Dreadnoughts as possible. Not going for the Dreadnoughts turn one when you had the plus one damage bonus was a mistake. You didn’t benefit from your one turn super doctrine at all, which is crippling for an army like yours. Not rolling all of the dice was the proper way to play with your Inceptors after killing the Dreadnought, because of “Fast Dice Rolling”… Read more »

As always great show, love your content!! I don’t know if any tipps are appreciated, but if so let me comment on the space marines (obviousely I dont know at which time of the day the filming is done, so if players are tired etc etc…) the list as such would have performed better as Iron Hands. I think mixing infantry and vehicles isnt really efficient as space marines as you need the support characters. For example, to support the infantry this list was missing an apothecary (and maybe a librarian), and wouldnt have needed a captain (for 1 cp… Read more »

Dear Lawrence the Spider, Love you guys, love the channel. There’s something that’s been bothering me for a long while now. Lawrence, it’s not that you are evil…in fact you definitely do not put off an evil vibe. I just find your batreps with Bone to be just unfun. It’s not fun to watch you roll dice with your paranormally obscene sixes coming up on the dice at the most crucial of times. What’s really not fun is watching Bone’s poor gentle soul collapse under the weight of those rolls time after time. I much prefer you playing Stig and… Read more »

Nice tactica, shame it seemed to go one way rather quickly. After the turn 2 Inceptors in the far corner were out of range, it felt that the game was done. The mission was in Lawrence’s favor, but only because the marine list was very immobile the whole game. Some units might be mobile but if they don’t get to utilize that mobility, there isn’t much point to it. Regarding the Space Marines list, I actually found the Redemptors underwhelming. A lot of shots, but not much quality to them. The damage output in turn 1 was not really impressive,… Read more »

Has Lawerence played those grey knights vs Bone and the World Eaters? They close fast you can deal lots of damage in hth. Just avoid demons lol 😂. I may be wrong and I’m sure it will be commented on, but some of the builds I’ve seen for world eaters on the channel could be good vs this list. Plus it be fun to see

First off – Happy New Year to all of you. Great start to it with this bat rep.
I am taking a unit of suppressors in my Blooad Angel’s list, nothing like stopping people overwatching them just by landing a blow.
As for Redemptor Dreadnought’s, the rules for them are fairly good, I just can’t bring myself to deal with the look.

Side note – looking forward to seeing if all armies will get some sort of supreme commander – you know who I am hoping for with the drukhari.

Hi Bone! Well done with the fists, the list is ok but has some minor adjustments to make it really nasty. So here is some tips from a dedicated Fists player. First the dreads should have plasma, it’s blast and have D2 without the overcharge so it eats marines for breakfast, it can also get D4 in T1 so it eats everything else as well. The plasma inceptors is nice but you only need one “assassin squad”, the supressors are not good really, even with the smokescreen. Outriders are better as they can cap objectives. Eradicators are amazing, 5 with… Read more »

So at 1:06, Bone only rolls attacks for 1 Inceptor’s overcharged plasma and it is enough to destroy the Ven Dred. Since there is a risk of dying when rolling 1s, should the entire unit finish their attacks ? Or can you just stop mid attack and not make the remaining attacks ?
Just curious.

Hey Lawrence thank you for another great Grey Knight game! 2 years into the hobby and I’m at 5000 points of fully painted sons of titan. They’re still my favorite (I only have them and Imperial Knights but still.) Something interesting for future plans though, I only just recently learned this even after all the games I’ve used him. The Paladin Ancient’s banner give +1 Leadership to UNITS with in 6″ but the +1 attack is only for MODELS within 6″ making him really tough to justify brining. Hopefully that gets changed with our new codex. Also I haven’t seen… Read more »

Bone the only real problem I saw was how (solely in my opinion) you grossly misused the Primaris Techmarine. If I missed it then please scratch everything I’m about to say When you went over your list you said you brought three nappy dreads for redundancy. As in your opponent couldn’t kill all three in one go. Well a good synergy was to bring a techmarine. Well maybe instead of thinking like I am going to have my tech marine babysit my dreads, have at least one dread kinda babysit him as well. Now I get it he rolled a… Read more »

As a Grey Knight player what great content – love the tactica style to provide commentary to game decisions. Bones list also has the shape of something promising. My thoughts with the Grey Knight list competitively is the vulnerability of things like the Dreads to those meta anti-tank weapons we’re seeing everywhere (Haywire and more prominently Eradicators). Having no inv save means 1 MSU 3 x Eradicator unit double shooting will generally pop a VenDread each shooting phase (even outside of melta half range) or Inceptors as Bone showed. Very different play style but I wonder if you see any… Read more »

As a long term subscriber I can’t say I’m a fan of the new format. It feels like the bat reps have lost a lot of the fun and banter, in the list descriptions at least. I much preferred the recent Stig and Chef report with their discussion between the two on unit choices.
Still very enjoyable but I definitely miss the old style.

A Culexus would have been your friend here Bone. You could have used it to zone out the centre of the board and made it harder to get those smites off. I agree with your comments about the Suppressors. Why not swap them for more Intercessors? I feel at least one brick of ten, would have been helpful. 10 using the rapid fire strat with Bolter drill, I’ve seen take out a Tzeentch Greater Daemon. A Chaplain instead of a Lieutenant may also have been helpful with +1 to hit and wound litanies. The Eye Of Hypnoth could then go… Read more »

Enjoyed the match up. Just shows that despite hills to climb like lacking in Space Marine wounds and facing Abhor the Witch, if you manage your spells & CPs well and play to the mission objectives and avoid rolling low on smite output then GKs are still solid. Would love to see 2 wound power armour, but fear a further model count reduction as everything becomes more expensive. Enjoyable report. Would like to see Bone emphatically win though… but enjoyed the GK win over Primaris.

Great game guys! Happy NY 🙂
I think it was closer than it appeared as Lawrence would’ve only got 5 points for Primary, to max out at 45. He still would’ve won with 72, after getting Direct Assault again, but Bone could’ve scored 69 with hold 2 & hold more, engaging & killing both characters (a tall order to be fair on the characters, but possible).
Salamanders, Eradicators & the Chief Apothecary to spice up the list? Drop the Suppressors, Techmarine & Lieutenant? The tuppence worth from a Chaos player 🙂

Glad to see the new purple gem dice are working quite well, Bone 😊
They are pretty too, I want some to go with my red and blue ones.. and want some green ones too!

Michael 'The Scorpion'

I think the IF needed a Chief Apothecary and eradicators in place of the Techmarine and Supressors. Got a bit unlucky with the mission because of the way points were retained and also because it gave the GK a playable secondary. I’d be interested to know what secondary Lawrence would have taken if the mission specific wasn’t available. I find the GK really difficult to pick secondaries with…

Nice, the first Tactica of the year! @Bone: this list is bounds and leaps better of what you fielded while playing marines thus far, and I think you played well too… great work! The only thing that didn’t convince me were the suppressors: I think they are a good unit, cheap and that could cover various roles, but I felt that your list was a little too light on infantry and they costed you 3 CPs. Regarding the redemptors, I was an absolute fan of HOnslaught but after the changes in 9th I strongly suggest you to use the plasma.… Read more »

If I remember correctly, you technically make shooting attacks individually. They’re only rolled together to save time with similar profiles. After the dreadnought was slain, the rest of the shots would be wasted. But, he doesn’t need to roll to hit if nothing is there to shoot.
